becoming a model

So. I have been thinking about modelling. Is there any experienced models out there who can give some advice. I have contacted a couple of agencies with a photo to see what happens. Its just catalogue modelling i would like to do for some part time work but am i out of reality do you have to be open to all types of modelling???

On the tv series about a model agency that was on a couple of years ago, it was a top london agency and they had two types of models, fashion/ catwalk models e.g vogue types, and catalogue types. Can't the agency tell you what work they do?
