My hair is curly and a bloody mess half the time. I'm struggling to tame my mane. I've tried frizz ease, what next? It'd pretty dry too so how do you get it soft and make your curls pop? Getting wed next week and want my hair to look less like a homeless shelter for stray birds Grin

I use frizz ease serum whilst it's wet...a good 10 squirts and mine is shoulder length thick hair. Then use Shockwaves mousse for curly hair. Generous amount through hair. Then leave to dry naturally.

Fifibluebell · 08/10/2014 18:35

I don't have curly hair but my son does I use an oil argan or coconut boots sell them to tame his and when I brush it I make its wet brushing it dry ruins the curl and just makes it frizz hope that helps a little

dexter73 · 08/10/2014 18:37

I never comb or brush my hair! Instant frizz! I just run my fingers through it when I condition it. Then I put on a bit of oil or serum and a blob of Boots Curly Creme.

Fifibluebell · 08/10/2014 18:37

I also wash his hair then put conditioner on and leave it until he's finished playing in the bath so it gets all!

dexter73 · 08/10/2014 18:37

If it is getting tangled then maybe you need a trim?

IrishBloodEnglishHeart · 08/10/2014 18:39

have you tried plopping it?

wobbleinprogress · 08/10/2014 18:41

Curly Girl book by Lorraine Massey - it's fab.

The Naked bodycare "bounce" range has changed my life. It's silicone free and amazing and not ridiculously expensive.

JamaicanMeCrazy · 08/10/2014 19:03

I could probably do with a trim, I don't want one though Grin

It gets tangled even if I straighten it, it's just that kind of hair Hmm I really want to find something that makes it less unruly, really, it's not massively frizzy, just really difficult to tame!

Argan/Moroccan oil is fab. I get it from Savers, so is cheap. The curl creams aren't enough to control my frizz, which is why I use serum and mousse. Lots of movement and defined curls...but not crispy! And I don't own a hairbrush :)

JamaicanMeCrazy · 08/10/2014 19:05

I never brush dry btw, always wet with detangler or conditioner. Like I said it's not a major frizz, but a tangled mess that is the issue Wink

Plopping

JamaicanMeCrazy · 08/10/2014 19:12

Oh I've done that (sort of) with coconut oil and a microfiber hair wrap. It didn't help, maybe I did either wrong Wink

I use Bumble & Bumble super conditioner (v expensive but you only need a small amount), then comb through some leave-in conditioner. Currently using MOP but Toni & Guy's is good. Dry, style, tiny blob of smoothing lotion and some hairspray.

Jamaican I know you said you don't want it cut, but a decent trim will make it less bushy. Mine is below shoulder length and naturally very wavy/frizzy. I get the hairdresser just to thin it out a bit every 3 months or so. Tangling is worse when you have split ends.

JamaicanMeCrazy · 08/10/2014 19:37

I'm a bit of a hairdresserphobe tbh, I may have to bit the bullet though. My hair skims the top of my shoulders just now, I prefer it longer but I will cut it if I have to Sad

I use Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner followed by mousse (Aussie at the moment). I don't brush between washes, I jsut run my fingers though my hair and then spray it with water. When I do brush it I use a Tangle Teezer.

MustChooseASecondary · 08/10/2014 20:28

When my hair was long, I liked Aveda BeCurly. It encouraged the hair to clump together in locks rather than a block of frizz. It smells nice too. Of course, brush only when wet and as little as possible.

Meanwhile, I've cut my hair short. I had to go to a trendy men's hairdresser to do it. The ladies salons only know how to manage straightened long hair. I love my hair now. It's life changing. I wash and go. Just a touch of hair wax and done. I don't even own a hair dryer. I don't look like an old lady either. I look like Eva Gardner in her hey day dating Frank Sinatra. Wink

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 08/10/2014 20:50

Frizz ease (only 2-3 squirts, not 10!!! and I've got waist length thick crazy curls. 10 is far too much and more likely to cause problems) followed by a smidge of phil smith argan oil cream.

Then plop.

Works a treat

Skinheadmermaid · 08/10/2014 21:04

umberto giannini curl scrunching jelly and water is your friend. Condition it for at least 15 mins a day.

sweetkitty · 08/10/2014 21:22

My DD1 has the worst hair ever. The sides are really curly, the back is straight, some of the sides are straight too so you get a straightish bit of hair over a curly bit, the straight but is about 2 inches longer than the curly bit.

It tangles in no time, she's had it in a bob but is now growing it. At the moment were using John Frieda shampoo and conditioner and Shockwaves curl mousse, only brush when wet, mouser and leave to dry. She's 10 so starting to notice her hair more.

JamaicanMeCrazy · 08/10/2014 21:59

Thanks to everyone for replying.

I've completely covered my locks in coconut oil and plopped it in a scarf as I had no long sleeved tshirts. Then put a wooly hard over the top as it's bloody freezing in my house Grin I look ridiculous!

Hopefully that will take out some of the dryness, and maybe even smooth the curls a bit and make them a touch more manageable. I'm sick of having a messy, tangled mop head Angry
