Do silicones bugger up your skin?

I tend to avoid conditioners with silicones in them because I'm pretty sure that every time I do, they're giving me spots all around the side of my face and my chin. But I've recently started using Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation and since wearing it, I've started breaking out in big deep cysts all over my cheeks and chin. Is that a standard reaction to silicones? And why do they stick them in bloody foundations if it is?

YES. They mess with my skin a treat. Especially foundations containing the ones with the super long names like cyclopentosiloxane (possibly volatile ones??) will always cause what you've described. Never used to when I was younger so I guess it's something to with aging skin.

Loads of people are absolutely fine with silicones though so I don't think it's a standard reaction per se. They're used because they provide "slip" to liquid/cream formulas. Finding foundations and face creams without them can be a trial!

Yeah, I'm disappointed because the Bourjois stuff seemed amazing. But obviously not if it's leaving livid scars in my face Confused Back to mineral foundations, I guess!

Me too. I loved the Healthy Mix foundation, but experienced the same bumps and cysts. I'm sticking with L'Oreal True Match Mineral foundation which seems to suit my skin.

I use the serum version of Healthy Mix and it hasn't given me big spots - but some skin care serums and primers have done so in the past . So dunno.

BabCNesbitt · 08/10/2014 20:29

ThisBitch, does the serum version have dimethicone etc in the ingredients?

Ugh, I can't even lie on my front at the moment because the cysts on my face are hurting too much. Sad

There's been a thread recently about using hibiscrub for cystic spots op, don't know if that's any help to you

TheCow, I've got magnesium sulphate (sp?) slathered on them at the moment in hope of some decent sporn in the morning Smile
