Could this be 'the parka'?

I've been trying to find a stylish parka for ages. Have taken a gamble with this. I love that is doesn't have the scraggy faux fur bit on hood and think sleeves make it a little smarter/more interesting than usual parka style.

Should arrive in next couple of days, here's hoping I like in real life!!!

No one like?

I'm guessing you're an apple? It looks very stylish, but wouldn't suit me at all because I'm an hourglass and anything that doesn't go in at the waist makes me look like a sack of spuds. But you go for it girl, it's nice and different.

cheapskatemum · 07/10/2014 21:22

Sorry, cross post. I like! Just not for me.

TheSpottedZebra · 07/10/2014 21:23

Ooh it's lovely!

I am needing to buy a warm, practical, rainproof coaty thing, which is much less fun.

Toofattorun · 07/10/2014 21:57

This coat would only suit tall, slim women with boyish figures. In my opinion.

WanderingTrolley1 · 07/10/2014 22:04

It's different, but you'd have to be very slim to carry it off, I think.

Spidergirl8 · 07/10/2014 22:15

Ah, so a general (polite) thumbs down then Wink. I'm 5ft 8 and a size 12 so may get away with it...

Not sure what shape I'd be classed as TBH, 32d, 29inch waist and 38 inch hips- is that pear?

I think this sort of thing all relies on confidence! I have a large group of 'friends' or people who acknowledge my existence and two of them are incredibly confident, one is a size 10 and the other a 22.. They both wear things that I think would look horrific on people of their build but look amazing because they have the confidence to just rock it.. So.. I hate the coat I think if your confident it will be fab!!

Toofattorun · 07/10/2014 22:23

I think its a beautiful coat!

I also think you are a very good shape to carry it off. Im an apple shaped 5' 6" size 18 and it would look awful on me.

Buy it, try it and post a pic!

burnishedsilver · 08/10/2014 08:12

I like it. I think I could wear it and I'm not particularly tall. I think you'll look great in it.

Spidergirl8 · 08/10/2014 11:38

Thank you fir nice comments- don't feel quite so worried that I've made a body shape faux pas now ??

So coat arrived and is 100% polyester, but listed as 100% cotton on site. Going straight back, I don't wear plastic! Not a good advert for Atterley Road.

What a disappointment! Did you try it on to see if the shape suited your shape?

Spidergirl8 · 10/10/2014 09:02

Shape was good, although a little shorter than I'd hoped. Back to the drawing board!

Spider - I love that parka! I see they have altered the description to Polyester now Smile

Can I ask - how tall are you? I am 5'8'', so do you think it would be long enough? What height are you and where did the coat end on your legs/bum?

TIA

deraila · 10/10/2014 15:43

Yes, agree, its stunning. im in the market for a waterproof parka and its more a more expensive and much less stylish business. im an apple and i think this would look stunning with some narrow trousers and cone heels.

how annoying thats its polyester and its listed as cotton.

Greengardenpixie · 10/10/2014 15:56

Well if you really like it, why should it matter what its made of....unless the material really feels horrible. I looks like nice silky material? It doesnt look cotton. I have a fine parka - lightweight that looks like this material. I think it looks fine :) You should keep it if it looks nice and a good fit. Cotton isn't warm and will not protect you from water ..it will soak [unless it has a wax treatment over it] I had a cotton parka and it was hopeless for the rain.

Spidergirl8 · 10/10/2014 16:38

Wicked fairy- I'm the same height as you, size 12. It was actually very short for a parka, finished about 2 inches below my waist. I have a relatively short body and long legs though. It also has a itchy, mock angora lining on the inside- made from 100% polyester.

wickedfairy · 10/10/2014 17:47

Spider - I am the same height/size as you, with long legs. That sounds disappointing, I wont bother then! How strange, parkas are supposed to be longer.... Was lovely too. Thanks for letting me know!

TheDogsMissingBollock · 10/10/2014 17:58

Am 2-3 inches taller than you guys but can highly recommend didrikson for length- just got the Taylor after recommendations on here and it's waterproof, warm, reasonably stylish for s parka and (on me) mid-low thigh in length. A delight after all my bum-skimming high street purchases!
