Waterproof warm kids coat?

I was wondering anyone could recommend a warm(up to snow temperatures) waterproof for my son's walk to school which we do what ever the weather. He's 9.

Aha - I recommended this before and it got in the Mumsnet Recommends. Ski jackets from Trespass. OK some are a bit garish but they are bargain price in the sale and completely kid proof. I'm just about to get an age 9-10 one for DS1 in fact. There are Trespass shops but I've bought ours online.

I have to say I wonder why in the UK anybody bothers selling coats that are padded but not waterproof, I mean, duh, when is it ever cold here without being wet?

Biscoff · 04/10/2014 07:15

I know. Boden are particularly bad for only being showerproof!

H&M also do 'functional' coats which are good Smile But do make me wonder why they would sell dysfunctional coats Wink

Sootgremlin · 04/10/2014 08:25

I was going to suggest H and M. Those Trespass ones look good though, and good prices at the moment.

However I was a bit Hmm at the name of this girls' jacket am I missing something and the word means something else now? The boys equivalent is Boisterous. Nice jacket though.

Didriksons are good. Waterproof and warm. www.vikingkids.co.uk/outdoor-clothes.htm

H&M ski jackets, the ones that cost about £30.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/10/2014 09:01

Decathlon have some decent and reasonably priced coats for children, with every thickness from cagoule to duvet.

BikeRunSki · 04/10/2014 09:09

I ordered a "boisterous" jacket for dS and sent it back, it was so thin and flimsy. I spend a lot of time thinking about warm waterproof coats and find that ski-specific coats from specialist outdoor shops are generally good. DS has got this this year. Not cheap, but it has extendable sleeves so should last s couple of years. Dd has something similar from Land's End from eBay.

shinybaubles · 04/10/2014 09:18

landsend do really warm and waterproof coats and there is normally a discount code about.

Lambzig · 04/10/2014 09:18

The polarn o pyret ones where you buy the jacket and the fleece and they can be joined up are brilliant. DD is wearing hers for the third year running and it gets used all year round. Washes easily and still looks like new. Pricey though.

We got the 3 in 1 jacket system from JoJo Maman Bebe; the outer shell has been great in the rain, truly waterproof, the inner fleece is cosy for cooler, dry night, or they can be worn together for the few winter days we might get.

VestaCurry · 04/10/2014 09:23

Another vote for Land's End.

Oly4 · 04/10/2014 09:30

My son has the Jo Jo one, it's fab. I love polarn o pyret though so might have to give that one a go

surroundedbyblondes · 04/10/2014 09:34

Polarn och Pyret! Superb quality. Will wash over and over and be pristine to pass down or even sell on
