Was it Braehead last week though?

specialsubject · 03/10/2014 21:50

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 21:50

special they do! My friend wears her heated ones whilst getting ready and pottering about, gives her the bounciest hair. Cow.

Not jealous in the slightest

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/10/2014 21:53

Never. I don't use rollers, but if I did, I would not go out in them, any more than I would go out in my dressing gown.

As you said up thread, I don't care if others do it, but I wouldn't.

Redtartanshoes · 03/10/2014 21:54

I did see her!

Fwiw she stood out like a sore thumb.... She didn't look like "shit I'm due at a wedding in an hour and need to replace the tights I've just laddered" more "let's have a mooch round the shops... With my rollers in"

The poor guy she was with was horrified Wink

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 21:56

How funny is that...she looked ridiculous!! He did look embaressed!!!!

I see it a lot where I live. They go and get the rollers in then dash off to other shops in the street to get nails/eyebrows done, buy cards, sandwiches etc. It's sort of funny, like Hilda Ogden.

Greengardenpixie · 03/10/2014 21:59

No she didnt look like she was due at a wedding i agree..out for a mooch with mahoosive rollers in. She was coming out as i was going in. He was walking in front of her. Probably didnt want to be seen. Ive never seen anyone out in rollers like that i have to say. Were a lot of people looking at her inside Braehead?

I was once told that girls in Liverpool do this partly because it's a way of showing off that you have a big night out planned.

Don't know if that's true though.

I think with a nice scarf over the top of them it can look pretty good actually.

Fabulassie · 03/10/2014 22:48

I was out in London a couple of weeks ago and saw a perfectly normal-looking, actually quite attractive, woman wearing one roller in the front of her hair. This was at 3am on a Saturday night. She was otherwise dressed to be out on a Saturday night. The people with her looked normal, too. We were in a taxi queue and I desperately wanted to ask her why she was wearing a roller but I didn't dare.

I was with a guy from Liverpool who said he sees it all the time up there but I really think that this was something different. She didn't look as if she were getting ready for a big night out or anything. She was out.

I think it must have been a joke with her and her friends.

grandmainmypocket · 03/10/2014 22:59

Live and let live. I would smile the biggest smile. I once had a house party with my rollers still in my head. Obviously not the same but .....

LaurieFairyCake · 03/10/2014 23:05

It's ridiculous.

Fine if you're in a wee terraced street and you're popping to the shop on the corner for your messages. In the 60's and your dh is Andy Capp.

Not fine in a big shopping centre. It's just attention seeking - "oh look at me, I'm off out tonight - in a few hours I'm gonna be such a stunna!"

Fuck off you daft cow.

burnishedsilver · 03/10/2014 23:09

She was probably on her way home from the hairdressers. Sometimes they leave the rollers in so that you can remove them after you've gotton to ready to go to an event.

ThisIsSylviaDaisyPouncer · 05/10/2014 16:13

I have seen this a few times recently in London. No one goes home here before they go out; they go straight out after work or whatever. So I thought it was a fashion thing... A look in its own right, iyswim. I thought it looked a bit silly but each to their own

Marylou2 · 05/10/2014 17:37

No one bats an eye at this in Liverpool. The girls are usually young and well dressed and the velcros look like they've been put in at a salon. They'll go and get their nails and lashes done and shop for clothes. It's all part of a big night out.

Elletorrito · 05/10/2014 18:02

Used to work in Liverpool and some of the girls would come into the office on Friday with their hair in rollers. Also caught the plane out of john Lennon and there were 3 women with rollers in - and they weren't together. Really normal over there. Nobody even thinks to comment. Plus Imo quite a matriarchal city - very strong women.

ginger001 · 08/07/2023 02:33

Can't see anything wrong with that, maybe a hairnet could be worn. It's no one else's business.
