Ok so thanks to mumsnet I have learnt to tight line (can't believe In my 33 years of existence I didnt know about this!)
Can anyone recommend good eyeliners for this? I have a Mac pencil but it's not showing up very well, unless it's my crap use of it.
Also whats a good easy eye shadow to apply in a basic kind of Light brown or neutral colour?
Oh yes and while I'm there then what's your fave mascara?
Thanks all x

Welcome to the world of tightlining Grin .

The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On pencils are fantastic.

I also love the Rimmel Scandaleyes kohl pencil.

You can dab your waterline with a dry cotton bud immediately before applying the liner. This gives it a much drier surface to 'stick' to.

And my holy grail mascara is Max Factor 2000 Calories. I've wasted £££ on Dior, Chanel, MAC, Estée Lauder etc but the Max Factor is far better Smile .

I'm no expert re eyeliner, (just going to search S&B for the tightline technique!) but have been very, very pleased with this eyeshadow which I bought in the Bamboost colour. I use a brush to put it on, and it is really easy to get right, stays in place all day and appears to last for ages.

If tightlining is what I think it is, Laura Mercier sell a whole bunch of eyeliner pans specifically for this - applied with a bit of water and a totally flat brush. I absolutely bloody love the stuff!

What is tight lining?

CantThinkOfAGoodUserName · 02/10/2014 08:04

I'm not good at explaining it but I saw the term used here and went on you tube to see what and how it's done. Basically it's eye liner applied to the bit under where your top eye lashes grow. Makes your eyes look more defined and awake in my case ( I think)

Not sure about tight lining but I second the urban decay 24/7 pencils they are great! I also recommend it and decay naked 2 palette loads of neutral Browns/greys in there. There is s naked three but the shades were too pink for me naked 2 is the best Grin

Urban not it and Hmm

I bought a smashbox set in the January sales this year. The mascara is brilliant, and I'll be buying more. The black kohl pencil is a bit full on for me, and the eyeshadow goes on really easily. It's the first time I've even attempted blending and it's so easy. I'm using a cheapo superdrug brush, and am no expert, so it must be the product! Bought a single colour mac and couldn't blend it at all. It's the first time I've ever worn eyeshadow regularly. Turns out I've been tightlining all along! (Not that I knew that of course....)

I tried it but I'm not sure I can stick a brush in my eye, I struggled with a pencil tbh.

maybemyrtle · 02/10/2014 08:54

I rarely do it - bit too much faff in the morning - by when I do, I use a sheeny taupe powder eyeshadow <a class="break-all" href="//lwww.pinterest.com/pin/247627679484530191/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">like this and a flat edge eyeliner brush like this. It should go into the lashline, not sit on the waterline.

maybemyrtle · 02/10/2014 08:54

link fail - the eyeshadow I use is this one

Maybelline Master Drama khol cream eyeliner is fantastic www.boots.com/en/Maybelline-Master-Drama-Cream-Eyeliner-Pencil_1237993/. I have used Bobbi Brown, Dior, Mac etc but this is better. Soft and easy to use for tightlining. I hear their gel eyeliner is good too but haven't tried it yet.

Browny Mac shades like cork and brun are good and they are matte.

Maybelline 24 hour Colour Tatoo (I like permanent taupe) is a good cream eyeshadow. Easy to blend (but be quick) if you're rushing and don't want to bother with powders and blending with a brush. Last time I looked Maybelline were on a 3 for 2 offer at Boots...

Currently liking Benefit "They're Real!" mascara. It gives nice curl, volume and length, but it's beginning to dry out a bit now...

If you can be bothered, Clinique do one for the lower lashes with a teeny tiny brush. I wouldn't have bothered with it, but all of my other mascaras leave a sooty residue under my bottom lash line by the end of the day and this does not. Also gives a real emphasis to the eyes when you have mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Sometimes when I'm really lazy I will add a touch of the powder blusher or bronzer I am using that day as a wash for the eye, either on top of a neutral eyeshadow, or alone, to sort of unify the look. Better done with peachy/tawny shades than hot pinks!

I tight line and have find the best black pencil is from the Body Shop as it's soft enough to get a nice dark line but doesn't come off into your eyes.

I also have the Laura Mercier one with the brush in bleumarine, which is an inky blue/black.
