What boots with boyfriend cords?

I'm 5'3'' and jus bought these grey boyfriend cords. But what do I wear on my feet? It's going to have to be boots and no flesh showing when it gets chilly but what?

I've got a pair of those and because they are tight on my chunky thighs not loose like that picture- I wear them with Biker boots or ankle boots.

I just tried black biker boots which were fine but kind of dominated the outfit. Perhaps a tan boot, saw some in m&s that might have been too dainty.
