Best silhouette for a 42 year old bride?

What shape and style of dress is best for someone of 42? I'll tell you some details.

Getting married in Summer in Oz (2015)

Wedding will be either on the beach or in inlaw's garden. Relaxed affair with about 70 people.

I am currently a size 12 on top and 14 on bottom. Would like to lose weight so I am 10 on top and 12 on bottom. There is always a disparity in my dress size as I am a pear shape. Small shoulders, small bust, small waist and flat stomach but wider hips and thighs.

What style? I love vintage look things but think I'm a bit geriatric to do a full skirted 50s style dress.

I really like 40s style and 30s too....don't really want white but would if the dress was right...maybe cream though? I don't knoooooowwww! I'm not great at clothes.

DH is only an inch or two bigger than me (I am 5.6) so I don't want massive heels either as I will look clompy next to him.

If I wore pink, the bridesmaids could wear white? Or cream? Or pale green?

They're only little girls...

Little girls in white or cream on the beach would be perfect!
That pink one is lovely I agree.

Nancy66 · 01/10/2014 12:15

have a look at the Ghost website. they do some lovely, simple shapes that aren't all frilly and frou frou

they also dye to order so you don't have to have white/cream

I'm going to measure my length from armpit to hem to see if it will come to my knees! I love it. I think it's got such a nice line and will be nice with silver shoes? Or what? What about a hair thing?

That first dress is perfect. I don't think age has anything to do with it though, you should go with what you feel confident in.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 12:19

Thanks Nancy. Ghost was suggested earlier and I looked but don't like the mainly column shape they do. I don't look good in that style.

Pear do you like the white one better than the pink?

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 01/10/2014 12:21

are you going with the Coast one? It's 100 per cent polyester. what will the temperature be?

LocalVelvet · 01/10/2014 12:21

Whist about this asos vintagey one?

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 12:25

Nancy I know but similar styles in silk are over a grand. I'll have to sweat. At least it's sleevless!

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 12:26

Oh I DO like that one Nancy but feel I'd need to be a size ten to look nice in it. I have a small bust and waist but my hips! At a twelve I'd look lumpen.

LocalVelvet · 01/10/2014 12:27

Or this?

Would work with flat sparkly sandals, vintagey make up...

tethersend · 01/10/2014 12:28

this comes in many colours.

Nancy66 · 01/10/2014 12:28

It is a lovely dress - you'll just have to trowel on the Mitchum!

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 12:28

Thanks Velvet but no strapless or low cut ones...not for me anyway! I've got a chest issue which I need to cover up.

OP posts:
ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 12:29

Tethers bit short?

LiquidCosh · 01/10/2014 12:30

That asos vintage one that LocalVelvet just linked to is bloody gorgeous!!

LocalVelvet · 01/10/2014 12:30

Oops, sorry.

Had read that but got carried away Blush

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 12:30

Nancy your asos one has changed my game plan! I like it so much. But would need to lose more weight than ever!

Nancy66 · 01/10/2014 12:41

That was Localvelvet - gorgeous dress though

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 12:47

Oh sorry velvet well anyway I love it! Sigh. I am more than confused now!

OP posts:
tethersend · 01/10/2014 13:00

I like that asos vintage midi much better than the Coast one.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 13:05

It does look more like a special occasion dress doesn't it? I also love the colour and the double layer...

OP posts:
ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 01/10/2014 13:08

I am highly tempted to order it in a ten. I have plenty of time. To diet I mean.

Is that a recipie for disaster? I have not been a ten since before I had DC. I have been a twelve...but not a ten.
