Why have I never thought to use NIVEA as a night cream?!

Because it's fantastic! The stuff in a blue tub, well, actually it can be bought in a tube now which is nicer.

I've got weird combination skin and the dry bits are REALLY dry and sand papery especially around my T zone.I was using Eucerin 10% but even that stopped working.

I had a fever last week and my skin was really suffering and in desperation I bought some Nivea , slapped it on last night and this morning my skin is transformed!Shock

I googled it last night and there are pages and pages of enthusiastic reviews. Apparently Alison Steadman and Kate Winslet use nothing else. There are over a thousand positive reviews on makeup alley too.

There was also an experiment where a woman used Creme de la Mer on one side of her face and on the other Nivea and at the end of the month a dermatologist declared the Nivea side better and more hydrated.

Sorry if I'm late to the party and you're already all using it but I'm stunned at how nice it is. I'm going to get done Nivea soft for day use too under make up.

It's about a quid too-BARGAINGrin

I've just returned to plain Nivea after trying every cream out there on my violently combination skin. Nivea rocks!

RebeccaCloud9 · 30/09/2014 14:53

Ugh I hate Nivea - it reacts badly with my skin, almost no other product does. Maybe I'm allergic to a particular ingredient in it but it's truly awful with my skin. I also hate the scent and find it far too thick. Yuck!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 14:55

Actually it doesn't smell like it used to, I'm sure the smell used to be stronger as I've used it on my hands years ago and remember it being very distinctive.

Obviously this means both will be discontinued within days of writing this.

Had to chortle at this, so true.

I like Astral but I wish it was a little bit thinner.

I agree with the poster who said Creme De La Mer packaging looks cheap-it looks like early 90s Avon packaging.

badbadleroybrown · 30/09/2014 15:41

Another Nivea fan here. Just the standard blue pot. It's fantastic!

Cheap as chips, my skin glows and my fine lines have disappeared.

It is heavy though so I can understand it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Eliza22 · 30/09/2014 16:29

Lancome will be thrilled to hear Kate uses only Nivea. She's the "face" of Vissionaire!

flanjabelle · 30/09/2014 16:41

What the hell, is the price on the link right?!?!

If it is, it better be made of mermaid semen as the name would suggest!

Has anyone ever actually remortgaged their house and tried it?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 16:43

Yep, shocking isn't it? And the jar really IS cheap looking. I've seen better in the 99p shop Ffs!

I'm currently using and liking the Nivea Sensitive day and night creams. Cost pennies and as good as the Clarins one I was using before that (although obviously not as lovely smell-wise).

TheEnchantedForest · 30/09/2014 18:29

In love Nivea Soft-have used it for years. If I ever switch or forget to apply then my skin gets so dry.

I am getting older now though so wonder if I should be using something with retinol or anti aging stuff in it. Or is Nivea enough?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 18:43

If it works I'd stick with it personallySmile

I went to boots this morning and bought more micellar water as I'd run out and some Nivea cleansing milk and a small tube of Nivea soft just to try. Why is alcohol denat bad for your skin? Btw it's 3 for 2 on all Nivea products atm !Smile

When my mum was a little girl the Doctor would prescribe Nivea for skin complaints, it's how it started out back in the olden days!

I love Nivea have used it for years.

notmydog · 01/10/2014 15:18

My mum is 82 and has used Nivea all her life. She has the softest skin ever, even her wrinkles are soft and lovely :)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/10/2014 16:25

Awww , that's so niceGrin

Love the idea of the doctor prescribing it!

My mum died aged 81 with lovely ,soft ,hardly wrinkled skin. All her life she used Nivea as base for face powder , Ponds cold cream to take it off at night .There wasn't the stuff you can get now !My hideously expensive Clarins serum is about to run out ....maybe I should give it a go ?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/10/2014 18:38

If you want a replacement for clarins then Aldi restorative day and night creams are incredible. I slightly react so can't use them all the time. They even come in glass jars! They are like the Clarins multi jour range.

Love hearing about these mums with lovely skinSmile

My grandma used Astral or Nivea on her face and Atrixo (Sp?) on her hands before and after washing up, always under rubber gloves. She had very soft hands and very few wrinkles in her 80s, despite spending a lot of time in the sun without SPF.

LittleBearPad · 01/10/2014 18:52

Nivea is the smell of my childhood. My did, and does, use it every night. I do too when I remember. It makes my skin lovely the next day so I should remember more!

LittleBearPad · 01/10/2014 18:53

Did?? DM!!

olivespickledonions · 01/10/2014 19:02

Have used the thick, blue tub Nivea under my eyes at night for twenty years and still don't have wrinkles under them!

Boredinchippenham · 01/10/2014 19:16

I tried both Nivea types ( blue original and new soft) after seeing a previous mumsnet thread and they rule but was lured into olay serum cc cream swirly type 22.00 pounds and my face went red and hot must be allergic to it! What a waste of money! Sad

Boredinchippenham · 01/10/2014 19:19

On the same topic I used imperial leather foam shower gel and got dry sore bits! Embarrassing !Blush

Sookie65 · 01/10/2014 20:13

I use it as a hair serum too. Dry and style hair , put a small dollop on your hands and rub it through. Makes your hair less static and really soft ??

Madaboutthrows · 01/10/2014 20:14

I bought a couple of tubs the other week as it soothes the irritation I get now and again.
