Why have I never thought to use NIVEA as a night cream?!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 08:57

Because it's fantastic! The stuff in a blue tub, well, actually it can be bought in a tube now which is nicer.

I've got weird combination skin and the dry bits are REALLY dry and sand papery especially around my T zone.I was using Eucerin 10% but even that stopped working.

I had a fever last week and my skin was really suffering and in desperation I bought some Nivea , slapped it on last night and this morning my skin is transformed!Shock

I googled it last night and there are pages and pages of enthusiastic reviews. Apparently Alison Steadman and Kate Winslet use nothing else. There are over a thousand positive reviews on makeup alley too.

There was also an experiment where a woman used Creme de la Mer on one side of her face and on the other Nivea and at the end of the month a dermatologist declared the Nivea side better and more hydrated.

Sorry if I'm late to the party and you're already all using it but I'm stunned at how nice it is. I'm going to get done Nivea soft for day use too under make up.

It's about a quid too-BARGAINGrin

Love it! I also use the Nivea oil free day cream which is lovely and light.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 09:02

What does the packaging look like, so I can put it on my shopping list?Smile

Love love love Nivea here too Smile

AnathemaIsANiceNameForAGirl · 30/09/2014 09:38

I use it and have done since my skin went a bit off the rails earlier this year. I used to be able to use anything but now pretty much everything except Nivea gives me spots Confused

Ah well at least it is cheap!

Lottapianos · 30/09/2014 09:41

I love it too, makes my very dry skin look fab in the morning. I use Astral as a day cream - also cheap as chips but a lighter texture so sinks in more easily than Nivea.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 09:55

I tried Astral but it really stung my stupidly sensitive skin. Shame because it's a lovely formula.

lol @ dames enthusiasm!

I use Nivea day cream its so thick and hydrating I love it. I also use Nivea primer for work days when I wear more make up its amazing.

I'm now going to buy the night cream after your review!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 10:10

It's not called night cream, it's the original bog standard Nivea,I just used it as a night cream.

I get very enthusiastic about beauty productsBlush Grin

I didn't know there was a primer!! Is it better than lanacane/smash box?

plentyofshoes · 30/09/2014 10:35

I have always used it. It is fantastic Smile

DrankSangriaInThePark · 30/09/2014 10:40

Ah, I was just coming to say Astral is even better as it's not so draggy on the skin, but no good if you react.

SofaCanary · 30/09/2014 11:04

Weird, I've just started using the old blue pot Nivea on my dry and crispy eczema patches - a nice generous layer is the only thing that quenches and soothes it.

phonebox · 30/09/2014 11:15

The really, really thick stuff?

It just turned greasy on me :(

Petitgrain · 30/09/2014 11:44

I've got rosacea, as well as Sahara-dry sensitive skin. I've tried almost every brand and range, over the years, including the high-end stuff like Zelens, Creme de la Mer etc. Having done a fair bit of research into cosmetic science and ingredients, I tried Nivea as it is identical to Creme de la Mer in formula, apart from the La Mer essence of unicorn tears "miracle broth" that they make so much fuss about, and charge so much for.

The rosacea and dry skin disappeared over two days and nights. It hasn't come back, and I get compliments on my glowing skin all the time now. I use it in the daytime too, a tiny bit under makeup.

As I wanted some sort of anti-aging/repair product I tried loads of serums, and found that Estee Lauder's ANR was one of the only affordable (just about) ones that didn't aggravate the rosacea, so now I use that under the Nivea and it's the perfect regime for me. Obviously this means both will be discontinued within days of writing this.

OP, the Nivea Soft you mentioned actually has denatured alcohol as one of the main ingredients, and unfortunately that makes it a bad idea for the skin. Maybe try a very thin layer of the original Nivea and giving it time to sink in? Otherwise you could spend a fortune and get a La Mer daytime lotion?

GoldfishSpy · 30/09/2014 11:45

My best friend used this at school. One night she dropped some on the chair.
Overnight it stripped the gloss paint off where she had dropped it Shock

Groovester · 30/09/2014 11:49

I swear by Nivea soft. Cheap tasting and fabulous!

Groovester · 30/09/2014 11:52

Cheaptastic*
Bloomin' auto-correct. I dare say it is cheap tasting though I wouldn't want to test the theory!!

desperatehousewife21 · 30/09/2014 12:26

Its the only primer I've used but I really like it Smile

morethanpotatoprints · 30/09/2014 12:32

I use the Q10 blue tub for night and they do a clearer one for day use.
They are really good, cheap and I have been using them for years now.
The other cheapie also used by the slebs is vaseline (kid you not) Grin

DrankSangriaInThePark · 30/09/2014 12:34

Now you see, I find Nivea soft too perfumey.

Atrixo handcream (acc to MN folklore) is also the same as Crème de la Mer apart from the unicorn tears Grin

(I always think Crème de la Mer packaging looks really cheap for such a £££££££££££££££££££££££££££ product!)

I've tried a zillion posh serums but the one I always go back to, as the only one where I really truly see a difference is protect and perfect.

Now, has anyone found an eye cream that isn't just smoke and mirrors? Because that's my holy grail of skincare......

ireallydontlikemonday · 30/09/2014 13:12

Its amazing, I've been using for about 6 months and won't go back!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 14:14

Ooo lots of Nivea fansGrin

Oh shame about alcohol in the soft version, I'd better avoid that as I have rosacea too-dry, red and flushing not spotty though

Anyone used the Nivea cleansing milk that looks good. I already use the Nivea micellar water which is fantastic.

TeamScotland · 30/09/2014 14:20

I've used Nivea from the blue tub as a night cream for 20 years. I use Nivea soft (white tube, couple of quid) as my daytime moisturiser. I have good skin.

There was an item on This Morning back in Richard and Judy days where a dermatologist said other than perfume Nivea was no different to Creme de la Mer.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/09/2014 14:49

No way!Shock blimey, so it really is the Emperor's new clothes then? It's a FORTUNE!
