Thin hair updo help!

S&B ladies, please help!
My Dsis is getting married in a month, we bridesmaids are doing our own hair (fine I trained as a stylist) but my hair is so thin!

Any up do, especially one to the side as we've planned, looks horrible because I have about 4 strands of hair

Are there any magic doo da's you know of other than buying a packet of extensions?

I've bought a few hair pieces from here before, v good!

I am in no way at all a S&B lady but I do have very thin hair (although I prefer it to be called fine by my hairdressers) and the only way I can pin it up and not have it look sad is to use a big fat velvet scrunch to give it some volume. I put my hair up as if in a ponytail, wind it around into a tight bun and then knot the end under and wrap twice with the scrunchie. I recently got some twisty updo things and the twists come right out the other side of my bun it's so small!

Wash your hair but don't condition it, blow dry it upside down and get some volume in it. Add some dry shampoo if you don't have enough volume.
If you can try and clip half up pushing it forward as you clip, then take what's left and twist and tuk to make a French twist. Secure with pins x

I have very fine hair but have found some great styles in the hair section of this blog. The video instructions are also very easy to follow. If you curl your hair with a wand it helps to give some texture. Plus Batiste do a XXL Plumping Power (£3.99 in Boots) which also helps with some ooomphh. Good luck!

You need dry shampoo and/or hairspray plus a bit of back combing... hard to do to yourself though - can one of your sisters help?

I can generally do my own, we're worried about helping each other too much because I'm actually doing the Brides hair. Want to be as time efficient as possible!

I've tried most things, but having a half head of micro-bead extensions was the ticket to thickness for me- sorry OP!

Oh bollocks! I don't want to pay for extensions, it's long and doesn't look too thin when it's down, and defo not when it's naturally curly.
It's trying to pin it up that makes it look like a thin dog turd.

Do you all have to have the same do? why not all pick what suits you best? (I guess you have matching dresses already so don't need the hair to match too..?)

Does the up-do have to be plain? Could you have flowers in your hair or something ? Like one of these maybe?

Doesn't necessarily have to be the same. Dresses are the same colour but different styles.

You could use rollers to curl and add thickness and then pin curl it up into a small bun? X ( you can buy fake buns if you can find a match with your hair?) x

Was thinking maybe one of those donut buns, my hairs much lighter on the ends than the roots, so not sure and actual fake bun/hairpiece would work.

Tigi does something called Sugar Dust, or something like that, that helps the hair look thicker. A bit like dry shampoo that you leave on.

Yep a donut bun would be great! If you've got some length to your hair it will cover it no problem x

Was coming on here to recommend a donut too.leave a section at the front free then pull the rest of the pony thru the donut u can pin it around that any way u want then if u have king hair u could do two kind of twist things around it. Then pin back the front after u have the bun done. Makes it look less harsh. I'm sure ill know all this already but yep donut the way to go. Some people slice them in half too if u want a flatter look

I sympathise greatly OP! I too have pathetically thin hair & scalp shows through at any opportunity when my hair is up grr.

Last time I had an updo done the girl sectioned my hair, used some dry powder stuff (Aveda) on each bit & backcombed for Britain! The end result was amazing!! I looked like I had masses of hair! Only downside was deconstructing it all the next day - no brush, just straight into the shower with a double shampoo.
