tween skin-care??

What skin-care does your 9 year old use? My dd is adverse to any kind of cleaning, but does so encouragement. She seems prone to bouts of dermatitis and even the gentlest detergent sets it off. She has been using Neal's yard starflower cleansing lotion which is colour and fragrance free but it smells like a chip shop!

Any recommendations? And do other kids this age moisturize?

I'm 40 and don't moisturise. She only needs to if her skin feels dry. Moisturiser is not mandatory.

If she's v prone to reacting to things, she should go soap, fragrance and foam free. I'd try Cetaphil or Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser.

But if I'm honest, I don't think I even washed my face age 9 - try leaving it alone?

Also has she had a proper diagnosis of her dermatitis? She may need prescription meds for it.

That's what we've been doing, leaving alone and just splashing with water. Not seen doctor, I used to get similar (and still do occasionally), it's only very mild and she only gets it if she reacts to a shampoo or wash, so must of time her skin is clear.

My dd is 9, she's always been prone to eczema and I'm trying to keep her as far away from all skincare products for as long as I can. She's never used anything but water to wash her face (and only uses the minimum amount necessary of pure olive oil soap elsewhere) and if she has dry patches just uses the Aveeno cream that she uses for eczema. I really don't think there's any need for anything else at that age.

Have you tried using sulphate free shampoo and shower gel? My eczema cleared up brilliantly when I switched to soap and sulphate free shower gel apart from a bit on my back - which I finally realized was due to shampoo running down my back.

ACheesePuff · 27/09/2014 21:00

Yes, we already use sulphate free shampoo which she seems ok with. Sounding like we should just stick with water for now then.

Elemis fresh skin, apparently works fabulously feedback is that it produces great results. If it's anything like the mainstream range, should be excellent!
