Wearing grey

Can you tell me how you wear Grey? I have quite a lot of grey in my wardrobe but I always struggle to coordinate it with my other colours.

If I wear grey trousers I feel I must default to black shoes. If I wear a grey top I usually default to black trousers and shoes.

I have a lot of brown / neutral / navy blue / burgundy in my wardrobe.......also a little bit of a few other colours (yellow for example but again never sure on shoes!!!) never sure how to put the together.......

Today I am wearing grey tights and grey/blue shoes with a pink, yellow and blue dress. The dress is quite bright but there is a tiny bit of light grey in the pattern.

Having thought about it, I wear quite a bit of grey, but rarely with black. Usually with a bright colour. It seems to go with everything.

I think it depends on the tone of grey really. I can only get away with greys with a bit of a warm undertone. Anything grey marl and I look crypt worthy.

I find the pinterest boards on soft summer helpful for seeing what they could co-ordinate with.

If you suit cold grey then look at true winter/summer boards.

I am no style expert at all, but I think all of your other colours, except maybe brown, work well with grey. I think you could wear burgundy, purple or red shoes if you want to avoid defaulting to black.

BikeRunSki · 26/09/2014 13:20

I tend to treat grey as a neutral and brighten it up. Eg - Greg trousers, purple top, black shoes; grey jumper, jeans, red boots; grey dress, black leggings and boots; coloured beads. I also really like grey tights (semi opaque and wooly) with skirts and dresses.

stripeysmartie · 26/09/2014 13:22

I know that you shouldn't wear grey if you also have grey hair. It's instantly ageing, because there is too much grey!

My husband is prematurely grey and I bought him a grey jumper. It looked terrible on and made him look 90!

He doesn't wear it now.

Wear grey otherwise.! It goes well with burgundy.

stripeysmartie · 26/09/2014 13:23

If you have grey hair, I suppose you could wear grey on your bottom half!

Twinklestein · 26/09/2014 13:29

If you want to add in colour I think greys work well with pinks and dark reds, and also with blue - such as jeans etc.

toptrumps1 · 26/09/2014 13:44

I love grey and mustard yellow together. Some grey tones look great with navy.
I've seen a lot of grey jumpers underneath a camel coat lately, not sure what I think of that, I wouldn't have thought it would go, but may be because I don't wear any shade of brown.

Hmmmm seems I'm the only one with a grey issue here then lol I think it's the shoes that do it - especially in winter. In summer I have a variety of coloured court shoes but only brown or black boots to keep my feet warm in winter. I do have a pair of grey boots but they just look wrong...Confused

Sounds like an excuse to get something lovely in a dark red Wink

Chewbecca · 26/09/2014 15:13

I've just today bought some grey work trousers that I'm planning to wear with clarks oxblood shoes

sweetheart · 26/09/2014 15:21

I've had to stop wearing grey since I've stopped dyeing my hair. I didn't have loads of grey stuff anyway but it really does make me look like a lumpy bowl of out of date oatmeal now Grin .

I wouldn't mind but I'm (only?) 34 Angry .

LadyWithLapdog · 28/09/2014 21:47

Grey goes with most other colours. I wear it with red, fuschia, navy, black, purple. I no longer wear browns, greens, orange, so I can't picture how it'd go with those.

LadyWithLapdog · 28/09/2014 21:48

Someone mentioned grey tights. It's still only September and lovely weather. Have you started wearing tights?

CointreauVersial · 28/09/2014 21:48

I wear loads of grey - pretty much the only thing it doesn't go with is brown or beige.

It goes with navy, pale blue, denim, white, black. Or brights like pink, orange, green, yellow.

TryingNotToLaugh · 28/09/2014 21:49

It was cold when I got dressed at 7am lady

Was sweating a bit later Grin
