The Bourjois Thread

The Benefit cosmetics thread was fun, so thought I'd start another.

I love their eyeshadow. I have two of their sets of three: the browns and the blsck/grey/white. I love these, especially the deep intensity of the black and grey. Smokiest eyes ever!

I also bought a champagne colored eye shadow to use as a highlighter for my cheekbones and brow.

In the foundation thread I'm hearing great things about their foundation, was it Healthy Mix?

The foundation is excellent. Better than Chanel, imho.

Ditto the Rouge Edition lippies. Very moisturising and great staying power.

Health Mix (NOT the serum one though, that's gloopy and slimy!) foundation.

Love the lipsticks, there is one in a black case, rouge edition possibly? Number 04 is like lip colour but better!

The eyeshadows are amazing, and I rate the pressed powder too.

A million years ago, (1989 to be precise) I discovered this thingy they used to do, called Blanc de base, which was a primer/foundation base/highlighter/ before such things were called that. It was bloody amazing.

Am huge Bourjois fan.

The Rouge Edition velvet lipsticks are really nice and last well. I like the Healthy mix serum foundation and the Happy Light foundation.

I bought the Healthy mix pressed powder this week and I'm really impressed. It's very finely milled and smells lovely. Sets foundation without being too matte or cakey. I only bought it to take on holiday but when my Mac mineralise is used up I will switch to Bourjois.

I didn't get on with the Healthy Mix foundation. It gave me spots. However I've recently bought the 123 Perfect foundation and I really like it.

I love some of the lip colours (the liquid Rouge Edition for example) when I put them on but I find they go quite dry and flaky after a short while. I have to scrub them off and put something more moisturising on.

I think their nail polishes are pretty good. And I recently rediscovered their lipglosses. I don't usually wear lipgloss but bought one on a whim because of a buy one, get one 1/2 price deal in Boots. It's actually really nice.

What I don't like about Bourjois is the fragrance. I don't really want my face to smell of sweet perfume and I always worry it's going to cause an allergic reaction.

Greenrabbit · 25/09/2014 08:52

Oh I forgot about the CC cream. It's really good. Goes on like a dream, evens and brightens everything up and lasts well too. It's only about £8.99 too.

shobby · 25/09/2014 09:01

I'm a big fan of their blushers, they do a really good range of shades and they last ages too.

Fabulassie · 25/09/2014 09:42

I'm curious about the foundation but if I can't test it I am unlikely to buy it.

I've had many long looks at their blusher.

Yes Healthy Mix (not serum) is brilliant - I can now buy a £10 foundation (or less with Boots offers) that does everything I once thought I had to pay £25/£30 for. Goes on great, sheer not thick or obvious, looks natural - basically like me without the acne marks and redness, not like I'm covered in foundation. And they do a colour that's pale enough for me which used to mean going to an expensive brand.

I am also a big fan of the "effet 3D" lipgloss - you can use a thick layer for a really glossy shiny lips effect, but I prefer to rub it in and then you get a subtle, sheeny but not glossy, stain effect. I got the bright red one in a freebie gift and I never wear bright red lippy so wasn't keen. But it looks great on.

However I love nail polish and don't feel Bourjois ever have much to tempt me. They could do with an overhaul there IMO. My fave nail polish ever was from them, called "eau" something and was a deep blackcurrant that was translucent - it was beautiful. But about 15 years ago. They should bring that back!

Fabulassie · 25/09/2014 12:49

I had a look at the Bourjois when I was in Boots and the display was all messed up - lots of testers missing, many others just gouged to bits. So, I couldn't really have a look at this foundation you are all talking about. I will check it out another time, maybe.

Healthy Mix Foundation is nice. I tend to use other ones though.

The cream eye shadows are decent, but to get a decent amount of colour, they need to be built up. Otherwise they're just giving a wash of colour.

I'm not a massive fan of their powder shadows - but they aren't bad. I just have loads of other ones that I tend to use more.

The Shine Edition lipsticks are lovely. I have a tomato red one and it's just great. Tastes okay, lasts well, wears well.

The Java Rice Powder is not for me. It smells awful and the smell seems to last all day.

The nail polish remover (the one with the sponge) was decent, but it smelled awful and the smell lasts forever despite washing my hands loads of times. Will not buy again.

Generally, I don't like the smell of their products. And I don't think the products are amazing - they're good, but I have many other products from other brands I'd rather use.

wildfig · 25/09/2014 13:14

Agree that the 123 CC creme is great - quite light but covers up all my redness and looks natural. Lisa Eldridge recommends it on one of her videos.

The felt-tip eyeliner pen is also great: nice sharp line, and really lasts.

Fabulassie · 25/09/2014 14:02

Yes! I forgot about the felt tip liner. It is really fantastic. It doesn't budge at all, either.

I really like their cream blushes. I have no 1 & no 3. Both natural & have a beautiful cream-to-powder finish.

Lipsticks are great

Love the cc cream, the healthy mix foundation- both the serum and the normal one. The Happy light primer is nice but can't really pin down what it actually does- probably nothing!!

Don't like the smell of the powder blushes or the pigmentation of the powder eyeshadows.

guitarosauras · 25/09/2014 15:21

I love their eye shadows. I have a lovely collection!
