Smart large handbag for work for £50.....?

Can it be done?

I am looking for a leather-esq bag (ie: pleather tolerable, but nothing shiny) for work for £50 or less. It needs to look smart and be roomy enough for a laptop and a4 files. Most importantly it needs straps not to snap after a week of carrying said laptop.

Ideally black or brown, but brightish colours like purple, plum, racing green OK too.

I quite like leather backpacks, but cheap ones tend to look just that. Tote shopping bags are good, but never fit budget. Satchel would be perfect, but are they getting a bit dated? Zara and gap look OK...

I am however prepared to be flexible (considering real leather but second hand thanks to eBay), but cannot do navy, radley or Kipling. (Apologies to all I have just offended).

All suggestions welcome.

I've just bought a gorgeous cobalt blue one in Matalan. At 25 quid you could have the red one too! I love it. I can fit lap top/files/tablet/lunch easily. It isn't leather but isn't plastic looking at all. Don't know how to do links but have a look on their website. I have had so many compliments already - only bought it on Sunday!
