Ryder cup hospitality- what on earth do I wear?

OP posts:

Layers. The weather won't make up its mind.

PrimalLass · 25/09/2014 12:06

Unless it says on the tournament website that you can't wear blue jeans, I wouldn't worry about it.

Golf spectators (even from hospitality) have always been very practical in my experience. Boots, waterproofs, brollies - whatever the weather dictates really.

Have a fab time - very jealous! Smile

Littlepinkpear · 25/09/2014 16:37

I'm going tomorrow Smile serious brownie points for getting tickets in the ballot from DH.

I'm wearing:
Navy gap slim crops
White polo shirt or vest
Uniqlo extra fine merino v neck
Grey merrells on my feet

Packing black waterproof jacket with hood and waterproofs into the ridiculously small approved bag size.

Will also grab a hat too.

Previous experience has taught me the blokes all wear golf gear, especially head to toe Galvin Green.

I've never had any issue in the hospitality tents getting in with that sort of outfit at an Open/Scottish Open.

Jeans are ok too but bear in mind you might have to trek across the muddy fields at the park and ride and around the paths to get to the tents if they are light coloured. Lots of walking with the set up at gleneagles.

Have an amazing time!

Oh please everyone going report back with details! I adore Gleneagles, Scotland, golf (although i suck) and the Ryder Cup.

Any details will do. Honest. no bit of trivia too small. What kind of champagne in the hospitality tent, how is the mood of the crowd, are there lots of American idiots yrlling "GETITINTHE HOOOOLE" as soon as Rory tees off, could you hear any banter between the players, what colour are Martin Kymer's shoes, is Sergio really as short as he seems on TV?????

Grin please, I'm begging!!

Littlepinkpear · 26/09/2014 05:18

On our way and it's properly pissing down! Our friends at gleneagles have phoned to advise the grounds soft and very wet so boots are the way forward.

Have a great time!

ajandjjmum · 26/09/2014 09:09

Looks lovely on the TV - but pretty cold! Have a great day!

chemenger · 27/09/2014 17:18

Reporting back! It was cold yesterday, not to bad while the sun was out but when it clouded over quite chilly. No rain and dry underfoot, not like Wales four years ago. It was a great day, at times slightly surreal, we spent long periods sitting on a stand watching the big screens while waiting to the play to come through, basically watching TV with a thousand strangers. The noise when things went well for Europe was incredible, we saw McDowell hole his putt to win on the 16th and the spontaneous urge to stand and yell was unbelievable. Fashion wise it was the land that time forgot, the mumsnet S&B crowd would have been in despair! Practicality and comfort, or fancy dress seemed to be the options. Some outrageous Stars and Stripes outfits and some interesting blue and yellow European get ups! A fabulous experience, now seriously contemplating going to the U.S. in two years time!
Hearts your question - Sergio is taller than you think, didn't notice Kaymer's shoes, you can only occasionally hear the banter. Very little "in the hole" nonsense, although there seems to be more today. I have been at work all day on a university open day so just settling down to watch the end of today's play.

ajandjjmum · 27/09/2014 22:24

Seems really exciting on TV - we've had it on all day, doing our usual stuff and popping back to see how it's going! Looking good for Europe.

Where is the next Ryder Cup being held in the States?
