Help what to wear for a cool wedding

I've been invited to a wedding do. Not the actual wedding itself but a gathering of friends a few days later in a pub in London.

I'm going with my new partner who is already quite cool Smile and his friends are all very cool music types, we're all in our early 40s. I'm a bit unsure what to wear - it's not particularly formal but I do want to look fairly dressed up.

I'm size 12 and tend to normally just wear casual skinnies/converse. I like dresses but don't want to look overdressed or posh (I'm not posh at all, and I'm from manchester not london so just not sure!). Any ideas?

Budget? Colours?

How about a dress with a biker jacket and heeled ankle boots?

SocialMediaAddict · 22/09/2014 20:03

I would wear heels, smart skinny jeans, nice top, necklace and a blazer. Clutch bag.

SocialMediaAddict · 22/09/2014 20:04

Love the idea of biker jacket and dress.

tethersend · 22/09/2014 20:21

How about something like this under a leather or faux fur jacket?

HermioneWeasley · 22/09/2014 20:23

London is much more casual than Manchester. I'd have thought jeans, non converse shoes (but doesn't have to be heels) and an interesting top would be fine for celebrating in a pub.

Not jeans! Dress and biker and ankle boots is the right level of effort I think.

Topshop
All Saints
Actually pretty much any dress from All Saints

I'm a 41 year old North Londoner and while I agree that London is more casual than Manchester, everyone I know would get dressed up for a wedding celebration in a pub.

Something with an interesting print from get cutie?

Rollercola · 22/09/2014 23:09

Thanks for the replies & links. I like the idea of a dress & biker jacket but can't justify a new jacket just at the minute (might put on my xmas list though!)

I've got a burgundy faux fur jacket that I might wear - not sure if it's a bit warm though? Maybe just for decoration Grin

I'm def going to wear black suede ankle boots (heels), so it's just what to wear in between!

Colours? If the jacket is dark burgundy/maroon and I have black ankle boots (also have grey ankle boots) what colour dress? I do like grey/silver, does this go?

I'm terrible at putting colours together! I buy things with no thought whatsoever about what else I have to go with them Blush

I have light blonde hair but with a darkish skin-tone. I usually suit purples, olive greens, greys, navy etc.

Change of plan as today I bought a bargainous biker jacket from H&M for just £15 (reduced from an already very cheap £29.99) Grin

Great Smile so where did we get to?

How about something like this?

tethersend · 23/09/2014 18:32

Or this?

Rollercola · 23/09/2014 20:20
