Wedding dress, help needed.

I'm getting married next June. It isn't a big wedding by any means. Registry office and a few close family and friends.

My dilemma is finding a dress. I'd love a coffee/gold coloured 50s style dress. Not too light in colour. Preferably with a bolero or some arm covering but not essential.

I aim to lose a couple of stone and be a size 12 by then. I'm 5 ft 8" and size 14 at the moment. My problem area is the stomach.

Has anyone seen anything or know of a good website for such a dress? I don't much like shopping (dp does ironically) but would venture out if a department store had something suitable.

How has someone so laid back about getting married got to stressing over her dress? Hmm

Something like THIS
No idea where it's from though?
Or could you find one you like and have it made up for the wedding the correct colour for you?
This is LOVELY If a bit short
Something more low key
THIS would be lovely in coffee colour.

lindybop have some lovely dresses

FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/09/2014 13:24

Thanks helsbells, the short one's nice but yes bit too short.

I found a nice coloured one that's actually a different style to the one I'd thought of Here.

The one HRH linked to is stunning!! You could have one made like it if you can't buy it perhaps?

hellsbellsmelons · 22/09/2014 15:24

I think the one you have linked to is nice.
Very vintage looking.
HRH link is lovely too.

I have the Ophelia dress by Lindybop in a pale gold and tge dress ia super flattering. You could also try Modcloth as they have some lovely dresses along the lines of what you are looking for.

Roobix04 · 22/09/2014 17:57

Try etsy. They have some gorgeous stuff and a lot of sellers would be able to make it to your exact measurements and you might be able to pick your own fabric

FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/09/2014 19:52

Thank you everyone, so many ideas now.

I liked the colour of the one I linked not so much the style. Bit too much cleavage on show too.

I may get the Ophelia one when I get paid as it can be worn to my dancing if I don't feel it's for my wedding.

Have you tried Whirling Turban? Their site seems to be playing up this evening but they're the real deal for 50s.

Sapat · 22/09/2014 20:20

Maybe try bridesmaids dresses? They might have more choice.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/09/2014 21:43

Thank you.

Ah right, working again now. Was this one I was thinking of, specifically. Spoiled for choice there though and the quality is above and beyond.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/09/2014 22:02

I love this one. Comes in lots of colours too. I still like champagne or gold.

The wedding, honeymoon and hen parties are going to cost enough so it's nice to find a bargain.

I second the recommendation for Whirling Turban - beautiful quality handmade dresses, really lovely and all made to order so you could choose any fabric you wanted.

Also most of the dresses on www.lookdarling.com are available in gold - I started this company but sold it on when I got pregnant with DD2. I can vouch for the lady who took it over being very helpful and lovely.

hellsbellsmelons · 23/09/2014 08:27

Your last link OP is absolutely lovely.
