Mascara allergy

I seem to have suddenly developed this. It seems ok when I first put it on in the morning, but after a few hours wear, or especially if my eyes get watery for some reason or I'm tired and accidentally rub them, my lids become really itchy and raw feeling. I wear hard contacts and these become unwearable and filmy and I usually have to remove them.

I have mild eczema that is sometimes triggered by stress or contact with different substances, so have some form for this.

Has anyone else had this develop suddenly? Any luck with different brands? I've used Maybelline waterproof for years, and when this happened first a few months ago I switched to Loreal but that was even worse. Just got no idea where to start. Worried this might be the end of mascara. Don't wear much makeup but feel a bit bereft at the thought! Thanks.

Have you tried Blinc mascara? Worth a go. I developed ultra sensitive eyes after developing rosacea. Obv not quite the same as you however most mascaras make my eyes itch and water. Esp waterproof formulas for some reason. Blinc is good and strangely the non-waterproof Bare Minerals also works for me.

I've heard folk on here recommending a Boots no7 sensitive one but I've not tried it myself.

yes, i could have written this.

i recently had some mild dryness/itchiness/eczema around my eyes. and i had to wear no mascara (the horror) and no contacts until it cleared. i have no idea whether it was mascara related or not although i did have an eye infection that i had to treat with lots of salty water - hence making the whole area drier. but mascara definitely made it worse.

some mascara kills me (clinique!). i find diorshow iconic quite good and have also heard great things about the tarte one. i use the maybelline one from time to time and it is generally okay. I HATE the tubey ones.

Thanks for replies and suggestions. I will look out for Blinc, and will give bare minerals a go. Worried this could get expensive!

Good shout re the waterproof - the Loreal one wasn't but was lengthening/thickening so may have had more 'stuff' in it.

I use Boots no 7 Sensitive -- it's the only mascara that doesn't make my eyes itch and water madly.

coffeenut · 22/09/2014 11:20

good luck with the blinc.

Oh I see, Blinc is a 'tubey' one! Never heard of these before. Do they feel a bit weird then? How do they come off ? Not sure.

A vote for no.7, thanks niminypiminy.

Hello! I realise that this thread is from many years ago but I'm having exactly this problem and I feel like I've tried absolutely everything! I'm desperate to find a solution and was wondering if you ever found one? If you had the time to reply I'd be so grateful
