Help! L'Oreal has turned my hair orange!

I dyed my naturally dark blonde hair dark brown last winter with a semi permanent colour - L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss. It looked great, everyone loved it.

On a whim, I picked up a box of L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss in Chocolate yesterday (a warm mid brown) and coloured my hair. IT CAME OUT BRIGHT ORANGE! With a hint of purple...

A dear (male) friend saw it and says I look like a porn star! I think he meant it as a compliment but that is not the look I was hoping for.

I have some important meetings this week and I can't wait for it to wash out after twenty-whatever washes. I've already washed it once with Head and Shoulders to fade it but it has left my hair dry. I'm worried what state one of those colour remover products will leave my very long, fine hair in. A hairdresser once used one on my hair after making a mistake and it made it very dry (and my hair was a lot younger healthier in those days).

Any hairdressers out there? Can I dye another semi-permanent darker colour over the top of a semi-permanent colour? How can I predict what colour it will come out over this one? Particularly as this one came out nothing like the box... Will it damage my hair to dye it again?

Apart from the colour crisis, I also noticed that the new formula seems to be much runnier, it dripped and splashed everywhere, it's stained towels, the shower curtain, bath mat, everything. In decades of dying my hair, I've never stained anything (nor had such a terrible result). Anyone else noticed this?

Yes! I've been using castings for years. Never a problem. Use light brown. The last one has faded out and I'm left with orange hair underneath.

Also the new box of castings that I want to put on to cover the new orange hair has a new star on the front which says "will never turn orange". Almost as though they are admitting orange problem.

You could try the Vitamin C & shampoo hair dye removal method, google it for instructions, you need a tube of those efferescent vit c tablets & a bottle of clarifying shampoo or head & shoulders will do, or if you can't be bothered to do that you could put a light ASH brown semi permanent colour over the top.

Get a hair dye remover like colour b4.
Castings dyes are ropey as hell, unless its very definitely a neutral or ash tone I find they always kick up red or orange.

I would avoid Colour B4. Yes it will remove the colour but it will likely ruin the condition of your hair. I speak from bitter experience. My hairdresser says although they don't contain ammonia, which is the selling point, they are full of harsh chemicals and to steer well clear. Well I guess they would have to be to get all of that dye out.

To the sensitivity of your hair. If you cannot afford a hairdresser, you must put on a semi permanent ash brown. It must be semi to avoid lifting the hair more and exposing more warmth. Home dyes are not true semi permanent if you are mixing two products together they are quasi; but something advertised as such is your best bet without colour correction knowledge. An ash colour of the same depth will subdue or diminish warmth but may appear darker. A pic will help.
