Curly Bobs Has Anyone Got One?

ZaraW · 20/09/2014 15:13

I have an appointment at the end of the month with Mat James. It's my first curly hair cut. My hair is currently one length past the shoulders and a bit triangular it's ok but would like a change.

Thinking of a curly bob, anyone got one and does it look good when air dried or with a diffuser?

I don't want to blow dry or use electrical tools.

Thanks!

I have, it's a long one with layers, slightly shorter at the back than the sides with a swept aside fringe. I alternate it with a straight/straghtened fringe. I only ever blow dry my hair with a diffuser if it's the depths of the coldest winter and I have to go out early. Otherwise I let it dry naturally. I use curl cream in it to keep it from frizzing. Don't know if it's stylish but it suits me.
Good luck with your curly cut and let us know how you get on!

Hello, yes I do! I took this pic of chezza to the hairdresser...

Obviously hers has been styled to perfection, but it gave an idea of length and shape!
I brush mine while wet with a tangle tweezer, put a little styling cream through the ends to stop frizz (tigi afterparty or boots pink curl creme) then leave to dry naturally for best results. Easy, gets compliments. For special occasions I use the ghds to tidy the curl a bit and back comb a few sections for cheryl-like volume

Great minds rockmummy!
Op, definitely sounds like you could do with a bit of gentle layering, it really helps the curl to look prettier and gets rid of the triangle effect we curly girls are curses with!

ZaraW · 20/09/2014 16:42

Rockmummy that sounds really lovely how long is your fringe? I'm not sure if I could get away with one as my hair is really springy and would be all over the place
CurlsLDN that's great to know that a cut like that can look great natural I really like it.

I've had shoulder length hair or longer for years and looking for something a bit different.

My fringe is down to my eyebrows at the moment and do run straighteners over it one after I wash it. My hair is quite fine and it's not a very full fringe. It's just enough to cover a bit of my very deep forehead!

thedrummerswife · 21/09/2014 01:44

I have curly hair and am after the perfect curly bob too! At the moment mine is layered and longer than shoulder length.

I've been pinning pics on Pinterest if you're interested? My Pinterest name is karlizzyw.

ZaraW · 21/09/2014 07:56

RockMummy sounds nice and great that your fringe behaves itself! I know if I had one it would separate into 4 giant curls and it would look fantastic (not)

thedrummerswife thank you I checked your board out. I got distracted by your lovely cat photos. I REALLY love this one and it does not look as if it has been overly styled and hoping it would air dry like this?

Love this one also but that has had a lot of styling, heat appliances?

OP posts:
thedrummerswife · 21/09/2014 08:08

Yes, I like both of those. I think you're right about styling though- my hair would be much curlier.than that if left to dry naturally.

I'm worried that if I have it cut shorter I'll end up with a big round mass of curls. I want it to be slightly triangular.

ZaraW · 21/09/2014 08:51

That's the problem isn't it, looking at all these women with their gorgeous
shorter hairstyles and in my case thinking I will look like them. I've had short curly hair before and it didn't look good without heat styling which I want to avoid.

I like this and realistically might work with my hair texture/curl

goodasitgets nice cut you look fab, if I knew my hair would turn out like that I would be very happy. You have a good hairdresser.
Euphemia thanks is it silicone free? (I follow the Curly Girl Method).

Thank you. It was actually my first cut with her as my usual hairdresser is on maternity leave. Not expensive either, about £32 I think

thedrummerswife · 21/09/2014 12:30

goodas fab photo Smile

zara I use boots nakd curl cream, it's silicone free.

Kundry · 21/09/2014 12:34

Bob is a great length for curls as long as you have lots of layers in it. I have very fine hair but in a layered bob it bounces up nicely. I only ever airdry it and styling usually consists of running my fingers through it a bit.

It is the perfect style for lazy people Blush

goodasitgets · 21/09/2014 13:18

Thank you Blush I did have a pro photographer as I was doing a shoot (plus size model)

Saurus72 · 21/09/2014 13:31

I have a shoulder length curly bob. I've been growing mine for a while after having a few inches chopped off due to reaching a silicone induced hair-snapping-off crisis. Not good, and I'm now silicone free. I completely agree with other people who have said having a few long layers will make it 100 times more manageable.

ZaraW · 21/09/2014 15:38

good as it gets do you have an inverted bob it looks shorter at the back on your photo but I'm not 100%? I am thinking that might work if I had a shoulder length version.

thedrummerswife thanks will check it out always looking for new products.

kundry I am REALLY lazy as well but don't want to blowdry as makes my hair too dry so its a great reason to be lazy ;)

Saurus72 yes layers are the way to go, I am not sure why my hairdresser gave me a one length cut last time I went........

OP posts:
goodasitgets · 21/09/2014 16:01

It is a little bit shorter yes
Basically the underneath layers are the longest and the top layers are quite a bit shorter

museumum · 21/09/2014 16:13

I had a mid-length but have just been chopped to a shorter graduated and I love it. This is what I took to show the hairdresser.

ZaraW · 21/09/2014 18:31

museumum that's really lovely can you let it air dry/diffuse it or do you have to blow dry?

OP posts:
museumum · 21/09/2014 18:51

I can air dry but have to scrunch a bit and twiddle any bits that aren't curling properly. It looks better diffused but I only do that for special or smart occasions. Mostly I leave it. It's quite short at the back so dries so much quicker than any cut I've had before without graduation.

ZaraW · 21/09/2014 18:56

Thanks, I will ask him if this kind of cut could work for my hair.
