Culottes

I have a hankering after some culottes, especially with the M&S voucher code this weekend. Thinking of something like m.marksandspencer.com/mt/www.marksandspencer.com/front-zipped-wide-leg-culottes/p/p22323856

But...

Having chunky calves anyway, what length do I need to avoid looking like a hill walker? And what about tights when the weather turns parky?

Oh, no. Not culottes!! No!

FamiliesShareGerms · 18/09/2014 21:05

I saw a lovely leather pair the other day, Whistles I think. Sadly I don't lead a leather culottes kind of life.

I think culotes, like dungarees, are an item only the cool can carry off. Even when trendy, on mortals they often look pretty naff. But if you like them, wear them I say. Length wise, don't hide the thinnest part of your leg or stop at the widest.

Step away from the culottes.

Show those shoes off in a skirt!

Okay it's a personal view.

Not sure if I'm cool enough Sad

Will go for a try on session but be prepared to go home empty handed

Let's us know how you get on.

I have a pair and I treat them the same as a high waisted A-line skirt (worn with silk shirt tucked in, for example). I have worn them with knee high heeled boots (this spring, before it got warm!) and didn't think it looked too tragic Wink

I have bought some but my friend laughed at me in them and la la laed the theme tune from love story to me
they aren't quite me

elephanteraser · 18/09/2014 22:17

I love my culottes and have them in green black as and cream

elephanteraser · 18/09/2014 22:19

ones in op look nice not too short

elephanteraser · 18/09/2014 22:31

the boots they've styled with are awful

Elletorrito · 18/09/2014 22:40

I have some culottes like that from circa 2005. I wore them with flat boots and looked like something out of the nutcracker.

Also fishnets and party shoes plus backless tops... Loved them.

Can't wait to get back into pre-pregnancy clothes. I am going to be such an embarrassing mum

As a teenager in the 80s I had a pair of tan corduroy culottes bought by my mother. They were fucking horrible, especially with the snot-green knitted drawstring-neck granny top she bought me to go with them Confused

I was the epitome of frump Grin & wore them because I had little choice and no clue whatsoever

I had a great pair later though, black, swishy, fitted on the hips - wore them for work till they dropped to bits.

FamiliesShareGerms · 21/09/2014 16:30

Update: I've been and tried a few pairs on and plumped for the ones in the OP. They fit surprisingly well, had 20% off this weekend, and work much like an A line skirt, as pp said.

Only slight Confused was when I left the shop past the rack and saw two old ladies having a bit of a chuckle that "these have come back round again!"
