Is this coat frumpy?

I'm under 5 foot (although a size 14 thanks to comedy 30G norks) and struggle to find coats that fit my chest but don't swamp me so I really only have the option of petite ranges. I quite like the look of this even though I have never had a patterned coat before but not sure if it's a bit frumpy? It's got that slightly 60ish vibe going on which is quite fashionable at the moment but might look really dated by next year? Opinions please!

That last M&S coat is a nice shape and flattering I'd have thought - vouchercodes.co.uk have 20% off M&S now.

Contraryish · 18/09/2014 15:06

The last M&S one is double-breasted which is terrible on large chests!

pinkfrocks · 18/09/2014 15:08

If you are very short with large boobs then I'd suggest a full length- knee length coat- as a 3/4 coat will make you look shorter.

nickEcave · 18/09/2014 15:19

Double breasted is an absolute no no. I foolishly got one a few years ago as it was quite fitted and swung out nicely, but once it was done up I looked like a matron.

Frumpy.

www.austinreed.co.uk/fcp/product/austinreed/Coats/Camel-City-Coat/13693 Do you like this one?
I found a blog by a large-busted lady in the USA who said go small collar and no belt if you want to take away from the size of your boobs - this seems to fit the bill and is a good bargain! But you might not like it.

Milmingebag · 18/09/2014 15:54

this one might work in the camel.

nickEcave · 18/09/2014 16:00

thumbwitch, the Austin Reed coat is lovely but would come almost to my ankles! I used to wear long coats when I was a skinny size 8 but at a busty 14 I would look like a blob. I agree with your blogger that a small collar and no belt is the way forward - belts look awful on me.

Milmingebag, the Next one might work, although not keen on £65 for 94% polyester with no wool in it at all. The fact that it doesn't do up might actually make it work on my weird body shape although it rather defeats the point of a winter coat Grin

This one isn't camel coloured, but it's not black either - not sure it would work with your bust size though.

Plaid refers to the pattern on the fabric.

Tartan is when it relates to a clan.

I have to teach this Confused

Orangeanddemons · 18/09/2014 16:29

this was fantastic for the large of nork when I tried it on. The shape is much bigger on the top than the ottom, and it was the first time ever that I bought a coat in my size rather than in my boob size. Very flattering too.

Not cheap though

nickEcave · 18/09/2014 16:30

Thanks thumbwitch that Marisota one looks lovely and the colour would be OK. It's out of stock at present, but might give it a go.

This is just not the year for a nice wool single-breasted coat unfortunately.

A funnel neck can usually be worn as a v-neck by leaving the top buttons undone so maybe try some on?

hellsbellsmelons · 18/09/2014 16:37

THIS is nice??

museumum · 18/09/2014 16:43

I know this is black, but it would probably be worth trying on. You might be able to wear it with a button or two undone...?

I have tried that coat on about 15 times now and can't make my mind up either! I have biggish norgs (double d) and it skims them nicely, and looked good with slim trousers and skinnies and fine with a knee length skirt too. But can't decide if it's frumpy or not! One day I'll love it, next day I'm not sure...
