Help for my borther's wedding

Hello, I am terrible at this kind of stuff - you know getting dressed and stuff.

I have a purple dress with only one shoulder strap and a pleated skirt. It has a red band of colour around the bottom and a red belt, it sits on the knee. I have to go with it some red patent leather shoes.

What else do I need and what colour?

Tights - I thought red fishnets, is that right?
Necklace - do I need a chunky or non-chunky necklace? What colour?

All help very gratefully received!

Pants - that should clearly say 'brother's wedding'.

What is the main colour of the pleated skirt?
So you are saying you have 2 choices. A purple dress or the pleated skirt?
Can you take pictures of them so we can see what best to team them up with?

It's a purple dress that is pleated at the skirt bit, I don't have access to the dress at the moment - will see if I can find in on line.

No necklace with one shoulder top in my opinion, earrings instead? Dangly silver? I would not wear red fishnets unless you are known for a Helena Bonham Carter style of quirky dressing already, no tights or 'nude' tights would be better.

Silver clutch bag would be nice. Are you going for a hat? What about a cover up for if it's chilly at the ceremony?

Overcooked · 18/09/2014 11:00

No hat. Yeah, I did wonder if the red fishnets may give the wrong impression.

I hadn't thought of a cover-up, I have a red on one side and pink on the other pashmina or a white jacket.

I'm really rubbish at this, I had to ask someone to help me choose a mascara this am. Was thinking of a dusky purple eye shadow - is that ok d'ya think...

Nude tights for sure.

Necklace wise, nothing ckunky, if you want something, I'd go for a couple of silver chains (the type you'd wear a small pendant on, but without the pendant).

I'd probably go with a plain navy cardi for a cover up if you need one. Silver, navy or red clutch would probably work.

Eyeshadow wise, I'd steer clear of anything too matchy-matchy. but that's just personal preference!

No dangly necklace - you could wear a choker though with a one shoulder top.
Nude tights for sure.
Red shoes all good so you could match the bag with that or go for a total contrast.
Not sure a hat would work with that dress but a fascinator would.
Something subtle.

No to the necklace as your neckline is a strong feature on the dress.

Wear eye make up that looks good on you - don't match it to your outfit.

The mind boggles at red fishnets. I kind of want you to wear them just so you'll be forever famous with your new SIL's family. But seriously - don't.

I had in mind fishnets with very small holes if you know what I mean but yeah I can see that they're a bad idea. I wore some nude fishnets with a black dress to a wedding once but I can see that is slightly different.

I did say I was pants at this.

Thanks everyone, I will go out hunting at lunch.
