Just that really! She has lovely taste. Jewellery wise likes silver not gold. Handbag is the other thought, she wears a lot of black/grey/burgundy.

Any inspiration much appreciated, have gone through net-a-porter already.

TIA.

Hmm it's difficult as if you try to match her taste you could get it just ever so slightly wrong and it would be a disaster. What about a really amazing purse (am currently looking for one- not found yet) in lovely leather in her favourite colour? I am quite classic colour wise in clothes but live having bright unusual colours for purses as you don't have to wear them. Brands like smythson maybe?

LadyRubyPenhaligon · 17/09/2014 10:33

Jewellery v difficult as taste is so personal. I think that should be your mantra whilst present hunting as it's an amazing amount to spend on a gift so needs to be right.

LocalVelvet · 17/09/2014 10:35

I think she probably has clear tastes of her own, and for that sort of money it would be better to give vouchers or to find out sneakily about something she'd really like.

TheBeanAndTheBee · 17/09/2014 10:49

She definitely has clear tastes of her own but I absolutely want to get a present, not a voucher. I'll keep the receipt obviously!!!

Have looked at Smythson, nothing jumping out there. beautiful laptop case which I would love, but feels like a slightly dull present.

A wallet/bag/accessory would be good, if anybody has seen anything lovely please let me know!

No ideas, but I'm 40 in December. Will you be my friend? Grin

LadyRubyPenhaligon · 17/09/2014 10:54

Somewhere I've seen a marc jacobs leopard print purse in black and white calf hair. NaP or outnet possibly. But again it's v personal others would hate it.

TheBeanAndTheBee · 17/09/2014 11:03

Haha! Catnuzzle she happens to be a very special, very very VERY generous friend, hence the budget. But sure - I'll be your friend!

For that price I'd like some Stuart Weitzman 50-50 boots, if you know her size?

Twinklestein · 17/09/2014 12:12

Have you thought of Aspinal

sleepdodger · 17/09/2014 12:14

Diptyque candle
Scarf by favourite person eg Alexander McQueen prada etc
Good bottle of wine

AmberNectarine · 17/09/2014 12:15

Or Hermes bracelet/scarf

Catnuzzle · 17/09/2014 12:23

Excellent, always love to make new friends. I am a luffly friend. And as I am definitely probably not stylish in anyway, any gift would be graciously received and I think I am less troublesome too, as no MN thread would be required to help make a decision!!!!

Sorry, back to work now, as you were!

Just had an idea though, when my best friend got married, I bought her a diamond necklace. Diamonds are forever, and a girls best friend apparently.

iwantavuvezela · 17/09/2014 12:30

Voucher for matches? Or take her on a shipping trip, have lunch , buy her something together letting her know rough budget.

boobyooby · 17/09/2014 12:32

Necklace or bracelet from tiffanys?

Sleepwhenidie · 17/09/2014 12:34

I think this scarf is beautiful. Or this one if she doesn't wear black next to her face.

Could then add a deluxe JoMalone candle (£115) or a pair of large Diptyques?

minkah · 17/09/2014 12:35

Just get a lovely cashmere scarf or poncho, in black, navy or neutral.

Can't go wrong with that. A treat, and useful.

MrsHarford · 17/09/2014 12:51

These are amazingly soft and light, come beautifully gift wrapped and would leave you some change... to buy one for yourself

Have you seen this handbag company? www.tamarafogle.com/

I have a little one and it's lovely - I love the shape.

minkah · 17/09/2014 13:13

Hermes leather wrap bracelets are around that I think. Or the enamel bangles.
Love those travel wraps.

I'm of a similar age and today I am wearing earrings from the cocoon collection here I bought these in a shop in Prague which may not be the easiest thing for you to manage. how3ever, it's worth looking at stuff available at Dazzle. I have pieces, all under your budget, from:

Jenny Llewellyn
Paul Finch
Debbie Long

And others whose names I can't remember. It's worth looking at for those unique pieces directly from the people who make them

Madaboutthrows · 17/09/2014 20:19

Why no take her to someone who will create a bespoke piece of jewellery for her? spend some of the cash on taking her there and then spend the rest on a bespoke piece.

bluewisteria · 17/09/2014 20:27

What about a weekend break together somewhere? Time and experience is always a wonderful gift. And the memory will last longer than an object I would have thought. Either that or super special and simple, a diamond as someone said. But I would plump for experience. Maybe a meal out together at a top uk restaurant? Le Manoir aux Quat'Saison would be utterly amazing ESP to stay as it has phenomenal grounds

WEEBITHILLANDGLEN · 17/09/2014 20:46

I would love a night in a really lovely hotel. You could go with your friend and have great fun.

mysteryfairy · 17/09/2014 21:36

I know this is in Style and Beauty and I love lovely bags, jewellery etc but the two best received generous budget presents I have ever given were both artworks I commissioned. My brother lives overseas and for his wedding I had an artist who has done a lot of public art work where we grew up make something associated with our family name. It is such an amazing thing - I loved it so much I found it hard to part with. It lives across the ocean now and I know that despite being very well off and able to buy most things he fancies it is one of my brother's most treasured possessions.
