Need going out clothes!

I've dropped a dress size over the past year, and gradually slimmed my wardrobe accordingly. I've got myself sorted with a capsule-ish work wardrobe, and casual stuff, but on the fairly rare occasion I get to go out for an evening I just don't have a go to outfit or look.
I don't ever go anywhere posh or trendy - but now and then might get a meal out with friends at a local restaurant, or a night in a low key bar. Have a night at the theatre coming up.
I'm 5'7 and a size 10, and approaching 40 although am told I look a lot younger.
I was thinking I need one dress - maybe a silky shirt dress style? Or not?! And a top of some kind to wear with skinny jeans? Any ideas?
I already have skinnies, heels, and some nice flat smart ankle boots.
I just want to have a couple of things always on standby that I can rely on when an occasion arises. Can you help?

Bump. DS is asleep, DP is out, I have an iPad and a credit card and I'm in the mood to (online) shop. Help me!
I quite like the shape of this but not sure the peachy colour is good for me..... Anyone?

I'll be reading replies from anyone stylish out there. I'm looking for something similar. Am thinking a black dress similar shape to the obe you have linked to, with either short or narrower 3/4 sleeves. The idea being that I can change the look with different earrings/cuff. And am looking for a clutch bag which isn't too big but can fit keys/iphone/glasses/money/lipstick.

Obe? Meant one, obviously!

No one has come to our rescue yet eight Sad
However I saw a couple of dresses on & Other Stories that might fit our shared bill.....
This maybe, although the waist may be funny?
Or this, although I'd prefer it a bit shorter
Or this although it's a big more fitted than I would like

How about this rather elegant top from Massimo Dutti which you could wear with skinnies? www.massimodutti.com/gb/en/c0p4545507.html

This Toast dress?

Thanks Frankie - love the top. In fact there's loads of stuff on Massimo Dutti that looks great - do you know what their sizing is like?

I like this dress a lot.
And this top maybe too.

ooo yes, that dress is lovely. Not sure what their sizing is like to be honest but would imagine it might be like Zara?
