Stylish mid length waterproof coat

I'm after a new coat for my birthday going for ideas from S&B folk.

I need something that will keep me dry doing a mile school run even on the very wettest of days (have a double buggy so can't carry a brolly), at least above knees possibly longer, looks stylish enough to wear into town but robust enough to dog walk in muddy fields. budget up to £250.
I'm 5ft6 size 10 top 12 bottom and would rather not look like a sack this winter

If it's got to be really waterproof then you'd be looking at the 'outdoors' labels, like North Face, Barbour, Berghaus etc?

Ordinary brands won't cut the mustard.

Do you want padded- as in down coats- or just waterproof?

p.s. Boden Rainy Day Mac always gets votes here but depends on your style.

I definitely want more coat than mac & boden patterns aren't really my style anyway. Will have a look at some of the names you mention (had dismissed Barbour as too horsey ). I'm not wild about overly padded jackets as I was a size 18 last winter so am hoping to find something a bit more streamlined this year

Stylish colleague at work has a dark blue Didriksons coat that I'm always envying. It has a great cut and definitely looks expensive/ a cut above an "anorak" and more urban than country. Looking at their website it might be a Tilde or Thelma or similar.

The best thing I did to improve the appearance of my parka was to get some co-ordinating accessories - a scarf with a bit of colour does wonders.

I just bought a North Face Arctic Parka for £185. It's fantastic, looking forward to wearing it. Last years version, as the new version is much more ££££

I've got a Barbour and it really keeps me dry. I love it.

Have a look at protected species coats. They are waterproof, breathable, Seam sealed and stylish.

I have tried on both the mac and the parka and they are both lovely.

Alternatively Aigle do nice waterproof coats, I have one of their macs.

I have a janelle coat by seasalt from last year that I think fits all your criteria perfectly. I believe they are restocking this year but do have a look at their ' rain ' range in general.

Something like this it's properly waterproof but not as expensive as some of the big outdoor brands. I've got a lightweight raincoat from there and quite pleased with it.
