Do you put your summer clothes away?

I never have as so much of what I wear is all year round BUT wardrobe space is now so tight that I might fold my summer dresses and trousers and put on a shelf.

What do you do and when?

I leave all my stuff in my wardrobe all year round. The only place they could go is the loft and I don't fancy putting my clothes up there.

JimmyCorkhill · 11/09/2014 17:57

My summer clothes turn into autumn/winter clothes by adding a cardigan Grin

Laundryangel · 11/09/2014 18:01

I do. Summer dresses & skirts as well as shorts went into a suitcase which lives on top of the wardrobe at the weekend & thick jumpers, woollen dresses & trousers were taken out of it. Every day this week, I have had to get the suitcase down & take out something to wear. I can fit everything in the wardrobe but only if I jam it in so things hang better & have less chance of being missed if I do this.

MrsEboJones76 · 11/09/2014 18:03

Lots of my clothes are year round clothes too.
I have a large basket in the top of the wardrobe. In summer I store knitwear up there. In winter I change it round and store summer dresses and tops up there.

Artandco · 11/09/2014 18:06

I store out of season clothes at back and in season at front. Not exactly a many merge but def the winter tights/ woollen dresses, and shirts and lightweight trousers.

Sandals v winter shoes do the same. Just put sandals and flip flips in basket at back of cupboard, and brought out winter boots and winter slippers. The rest stay and work in both

turkeyboots · 11/09/2014 18:07

Yes. Summer maximum skirts, shorts etc all will get packed away soon. Don't have wardrobe space for everything so it gets packed up in storage bags under the bed.

I also like rediscovering my clothes each season!

RoganJosh · 11/09/2014 18:09

I put mine in the loft.

BrianButterfield · 11/09/2014 18:09

Yes - high summer things like shorts and beachy dresses are already away.

I don't have separate sections for clothes. Some are multipurpose by wearing with a cardigan and tights. Others just sit around (I don't have that many clothes so it isn't that much of an issue Grin)

flingingmelon · 11/09/2014 18:14

End August and end Jan I do a full rotation. Sling out the rubbish, pull out the new season, bag up the old for the attic. Otherwise we'd drown in clothes. (Great loft insulation tooGrin)

mirpuppet · 11/09/2014 19:07

Yes. Summer clothes put in storage bags and placed high in wardrobe. They are accessible for warm weather destination holidays.

I will do that this weekend.

I use a large plastic tub with lid to rotate sandals and winter boots.

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/09/2014 19:09

Gosh yes, I've put all my holiday/high summer stuff away.

dexter73 · 11/09/2014 19:19

I've just taken all my holiday stuff out as I am off to Turkey for a week on Saturday!! Currently about 32C during the day - woohoo!!

Trills · 11/09/2014 19:24

No, I don't have any "away" to put them.

Trills · 11/09/2014 19:25

Agree with JimmyCorkhill about the cardigan as well.

Bunbaker · 11/09/2014 19:28

Yes. I don't have much wardrobe space and I have summer clothes that can't be turned into winter clothes - shorts, skimpy tops, summer dresses, so they get put away. I am currently wearing a maxi dress that will probably get ut away next week.

ohmymimi · 11/09/2014 19:30

Everything summery gets packed away in clear plastic storage boxes and put in the loft at the end of September. This includes shoes/sandals, nightwear and bags. I do the same with my winter wardrobe, boots, bags etc. in April. I have a separate couple of boxes for swimsuits and holiday clothes that stay in the loft, with my luggage, until I need them. I do have items such as jeans, camisoles, macs, that stay out all year round. I find the twice yearly change is a good time for editing and weeding out items for the charity bag or clothes agency. I also have a rule that every time I buy a new piece, an equivalent old piece has to go. Rules are made to be broken

MaryBerrysLostCherry · 11/09/2014 19:31

Yup. I have storage boxes which live on a high shelf in my built in wardrobe. Twice a year I rotate out the high summer/deep winter clothes and shoes at the same time as doing a wardrobe edit. It's fab as it forces me to look properly at everything and I usually find new outfits from existing clothing or identify gaps.

pinkfrocks · 11/09/2014 19:43

Aren't you worried about damp and condensation in the loft?
DH won't put anything in the loft that could be affected by condensation- says it will permeate sealed containers.

MinesAPintOfTea · 11/09/2014 19:43

My shelves are quite deep, so I "rotate". At some time in September I get everything out and put shorts/summer dresses to the back and thick jumpers to the front.

pinkfrocks · 11/09/2014 19:48

Jealous of deep shelves.

spottymoo · 11/09/2014 20:32

End of September all the summer dresses, skirts & vests and sandels are packed away into suitcases and the thick jumpers winter dresses boots etc come out.

We have a walk in wardrobe and the cases fit in the back.

MillyCariad · 11/09/2014 20:34

Yes I put my Summer clothes away and get my Winter woollies out because its very cold here in Winter Smile

WanderingTrolley1 · 11/09/2014 20:36

Yes.

There just isn't enough wardrobe/cupboard/drawer/under-bed space to house it all - it gets bagged and up in to the spare room.
