Do you put your summer clothes away?

I never have as so much of what I wear is all year round BUT wardrobe space is now so tight that I might fold my summer dresses and trousers and put on a shelf.

What do you do and when?

I do as others have said and put anything obviously summery away around about now (eg shorts, sandals) and get out wintery things like jumper dresses, cosy pjs and boots. I do have a lot that goes across all seasons as well though - things like vests are good for layering. What I'm not wearing goes in a storage box on top of the wardrobe so it's easily accessible which is a good thing with our bonkers weather - I've already had to get so few things back out as it's been so nice this week!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/09/2014 20:42

I wear dresses that are suitable for all year round. I just put thicker cardis on or jackets on. I don't really feel the cold so don't bother with winter woolies

foxdongle · 11/09/2014 22:57

I move things around a bit in my wardrobe, but not yet as still wearing a mixture .
Like above I have year round skirts and two dresses that will soon be worn with tights and boots.
I have a holiday clothes drawer for my lone pair of shorts/swimwear etc and a separate one for gloves/scarves/hats.
I've just cleared out a bagful of stuff that don't cut the mustard anymore too, so lots of space.

Tauriel1 · 11/09/2014 23:06

Kind of.

Really summery stuff like maxi dresses, sandals and holiday type clothes go in bags under my bed.

I don't have loads though. Majority of the year I'm a jeans and shirt/top kind of person.

flipchart · 11/09/2014 23:10

I put summer stuff that can't really be worn in winter in my cupboard in the loft.
The loft is fitted out as a proper room with cupboards and carpets and stuff so there isn't a problem with damp or anything.

peasandlove · 12/09/2014 07:17

yes I put the whole season of clothes in a suitcase in the garage.

samesizetoes · 12/09/2014 07:28

No, this is the first year I'm not putting things away for the season. It'll just encourage me to buy more clothes when I see an empty space.

starfishmummy · 12/09/2014 07:33

Not really. I wear a lot of stuff year round layered up with cardigans. There are a few things that are for holidays only - beach cover ups, flip flops etc and they go in a holdall once we are back.

murphys · 12/09/2014 07:48

Woohoo I am doing this today. Taking out all my summer stuff and packing away all the bulky winter stuff.

I definitely don't have enough space in my wardrobe for both seasons clothes. I really don't think that I have that much, but I suppose I do. But there is such a vast temperature change for us between the two seasons, so I would never wear winter clothes during summer months. Its just that the winter clothes are so bulky, they take up a lot of space.

And I cant wait to get rid off all those winter clothes they depress me, I am most definitely not a winter person!

Clothes will be packed into vacuum seal bag and placed in top cupboard, along with boots and winter shoes. Hurrah to seeing sandals again.

ohmymimi · 12/09/2014 08:29

pink My loft is very dry, I've never had a damp problem - it's my main storage area!

iwantgin · 12/09/2014 08:57

Yes. I have a suitcase which is currently packed with big jumpers and long sleeved tshirts.

I am still in the summer clothes - and hopefully will be for the next week or three -but will have a swap around then.

I don't like to have too many items to choose from - and tend to do a big cull each time I swap stuff. Charity shop bags will be full :)

ElephantsNeverForgive · 12/09/2014 09:04

Everything lives in wardrobes and draws all year, but what's at the front, easiest bit of wardrobe to get in changes.

Summer tops and cropped trousers get stuck two to a hanger and more Tshirts get stuffed in the draw.

Sandals are sent to outer darkness, ie in a box under our big old chest of draws.

pinkfrocks · 12/09/2014 10:45

Just out of interest, how much wardrobe space do you all have?

Ours is built in. Modern house, hopeless no-storage.

We share it. I have one hanging rail that is about 6 feet long ( side to side) and 2 shelves above. I hang all trousers- including a couple of pairs of good wool ones, dresses, skirts and knitwear. I also have 3 drawers in a small chest of drawers- one is full of undies and the other is for knitwear although I also hand knitwear in the wardrobe.

I have a couple of coats, fleeces and waterproofs in the spare bedroom wardrobe, but still have 2 good coats in my main wardrobe.

My house is modern too but has masses of storage.
I have a wardrobe just for coats/jackets, boots shoes and jeans.
Then another wardrobe which has all my other clothes in. Then I have 1 big chest of drawers and 1 small. That's just me DH has his own wardrobe and 2 sets of drawers.

dexter73 · 12/09/2014 11:36

I have a wardobe with a shelf at the top for jumpers, then a rail for dresses, skirts & tops, and a shelf underneath for jeans and t-shirts. Socks and undies are in a chest of drawers. Wardrobe is about 3 feet wide.

Apatite1 · 12/09/2014 11:43

I literally have no space left: I have to leave clothes in suitcases and boxes, and rotate for season. It's time for another cull.

alienblue · 12/09/2014 11:43

We don't put stuff away. I only manage to do a proper wardrobe sort out every few years (definitely need to do one soon), I'd never be organised to do it every season.

We have a lot of wardrobe space - equivalent to about 7 wardrobe doors wide. We use it for all storage though, so there are also random bits in there - papers, present stash, computer stuff.

pinkfrocks · 12/09/2014 11:51

fox is all that storage in 1 room or do you spread around the house?

OP posts:
foxdongle · 12/09/2014 12:01

That's in our bedroom. My DD has a triple wardrobe and 2 sets of drawers. DS has walk in wardrobe plus sets of 2 drawers, a bit wasted on him but his room is the smallest. I hate clutter and big rooms with storage was one of the (many)reasons we moved tbh.

pinkfrocks · 12/09/2014 12:05

you're lucky. we live in shoe box in the SE where anything with any space is £2m!!!

Apatite1 · 12/09/2014 12:22

Yup I'm in London. The place looks like an ikea storage solutions layout!!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 12/09/2014 12:35

I have two wardrobes so I switch them around so current season is in the wardrobes that's most accessible

Notonaschoolnight · 12/09/2014 12:38

Yes go in the loft changeover oct and apr school hols

bigTillyMint · 12/09/2014 13:22

Yes, there is not enough space in my wardrobe/drawers otherwise. I am also in London. I would love a walk-in wardrobe!

Bonsoir · 12/09/2014 13:25

I do a changeover for DD from winter to summer, folding the out of season clothes and putting them on a top shelf.

I have a dressing room with shelves and lots of hanging space and I do move the current season day wear (spring/summer/autumn/winter) to the front, because the back of my dressing room always seems to get filled up with bags of miscellaneous stuff I trip over!
