I love the soft v neck jumpers

canny1234 · 09/09/2014 14:37

For me - the modal/cotton long sleeved T's and the super long vests for layering.Teenage dd bought the cobalt patterned camisole, younger dd loved the pale pink pleather jacket.Twin brother likes the chinos and shorts.Matalan is consistently good for boys clothes but the girls section is very variable.

AuntieBrenda · 09/09/2014 14:39

Homeware. I get loads of stuff there. Jimjams also good. I think the shoes are rubbish. I get loads of vouchers through the post too.

Onedropoflove · 09/09/2014 14:56

The pjs look abit see through to me. I have to think of the post man.

Jersey skirts, double layered and a good cheaper alternative to that ruched skirt everyone raved on about from whistles (or possibly Hush I forget now)

Plain cotton undies and leggings are good too.

Beautydiva · 09/09/2014 16:17

Matalan homeware , towels bedding etc .

bishboschone · 09/09/2014 16:48

Their plain knitwear is lovely and soft . I got ds winter coat there this year. It's really nice and was very reasonable . Warm and waterproof with a big hood .the home stuff is nice too.

Onedropoflove · 09/09/2014 18:35

The boys jackets look brilliant

Jersey dresses - I try and snap them up now if they're doing a pattern I like. One saw me through summer and another (with three quarter sleeves) does for work. They wash well and are still in good condition - and don't need ironing (hooray!)

Hakluyt · 09/09/2014 18:39

Men's pyjamas. For all the family.

T shirts. The small men's fit my 13 year old DS perfectly. And none of his friends parents shop there so he has amazing hipster T shirts his friends are really impressed by! Grin

And, bizarrely, school shoes if your child is size 6 or over.......ds has had 3 pairs of the same style now and they have been comfortable and hard wearing. Also Van lookalikes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2014 23:24

Matalan can be quite hit and miss. Sometimes I buy loads, other times there's nothing I like.

The Modal long sleeved T Shirts are lovely, I bought a cranberry red and might go back for other colours.

They had a parka that was really nice (about £35 mark IIRC might be £40ish but good value)

ocelot41 · 10/09/2014 06:41

Anyone else worry about sweatshops? They're just SO cheap....

Floisme · 10/09/2014 07:01

Agreed, ocelot41. Admittedly it's hard to know where you can shop ethically unless you only buy Fair Trade but Matalan do sound particularly bad e.g. they're still trying to get out of paying compensation to Rana Plaza victims and families.

I'm no fan of Primark but at least they paid up straight away.

ocelot41 · 10/09/2014 15:58

Mm. That's part of what I was thinking of. Dammit, I love a bargain but I can't get past that one. Have found Nancy Dee and Komodo online and am going to try some ethical shopping ( in sales). Sorry, didnt mean to pour cold water all over thread....

Onedropoflove · 11/09/2014 09:10

I used to be more ethical but I can't afford to be anymore.

Agree that their jersey pencil skirts are great - I have one in black and one in burgundy -very comfy and a great length - love them.

cookie100 · 11/09/2014 09:57

I've had some great jeans from Matalan (for me). Wearing one pair now. Why pay more?!

Onedropoflove · 12/09/2014 11:21

I've got a 25% off coupon so I may buy some bedding. It's not too thin is it?

OP posts:
higgle · 12/09/2014 11:35

home stuff is good, two sets of black bed linen have seen DS1 through uni and are half way through with DS2. I always buy them black bed linen and black towels.

Onedropoflove · 12/09/2014 16:59

Oh, I don't think I can do black sheets at my age!

OP posts:
arna · 12/09/2014 17:45

I bought quite a few alphabet mugs from there recently to stash away for presents.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/09/2014 18:57

I got a 25% off voucher too Grin Bought some jumpers and cardigans, Modal tops.

They had some wool mix cable jumpers that I really coveted but they were a bit short. The cable knit cardigans were a bit "Val Doonigan" for me too.

I loved the grey or black jumpers with white collar (I bought a grey cable knit with collar/cuffs last year, love it)

I'm trying to wean myself off black, navy, grey black/white so I'm going for colour where I can.

Onedropoflove · 12/09/2014 20:47

Do they deliver?
