Please help me decide, then tell me what shoes and bag, and, if I choose the
flowery one, how best to cover my arms.

I usually slob around in baggy trousers and tops Sad.

I am a size 16 Blush.

TIA

ps - please tell me phase eight sizes come up small, I think I have put on more weight than I realised.

I am a size 14/16 and I would be reluctant to wear them as my fat is all on my tummy.

The shape of the dresses are the as for the pattern what is your colouring. I think you may need to try them both on and see which one you like.

KikitheKitKat · 05/09/2014 19:00

I like the flowery one and I think all the ruching should make it flattering. Not sure about arm covering - the obvious to me is a pale pink bolero but I think MN doesn't like them!

fiftyandfat · 05/09/2014 19:09

I think with some reinforced underwear I can probably get away with the style. I carry more weight on my hips TBH.

I like the "crushed" one - I will wait till DD gets home and ask her what she thinks.

I haven't clue about what is fashionable.

What colour tights would be suitable?

Bump.

Love the first, crushed dress. Sheer fitted black cardigan? Black opaque tights. Black suede court shoes? When is the wedding?

olivespickledonions · 05/09/2014 20:36

Ruches always flattering, so is a cowl neck.

fiftyandfat · 05/09/2014 20:40

Wedding is in a couple of weeks.
Just had a sudden panic as I realised I have to look presentable.
Do you think I am too fat for those dresses?
I am 5' 6".

I have put on a lot of weight and am at a complete loss as to what to do about clothes.

I know I need to get back on the diet, but I don't think I can work miracles in 14 days.

No! Size 16 is not that big. And the ruchy dress will suit curves better than a skinny minnie.
I think you need to order, try on and you may be surprised how good you can look.

olivespickledonions · 05/09/2014 20:47

Don't forget that a nice pair of heels will raise you up, make everything look more streamlined and give you a nice boost of confidence.

fiftyandfat · 05/09/2014 20:51

Thank you for being kind and encouraging.
I don't get out much and haven't bought a new dress in years.
i think I have just forgotten how to put an outfit together.
I am not used to being this weight, but I have been comfort eating after a couple of bereavements and I really need to pull myself together. I used to be a size 12. Sad

This wedding will cheer me up, but I need to make an effort.

Try not to get down about your weight. If you want to you can address it later on.
For now just focus on looking and feeling fab for this wedding. Order the dresses, buy a new pair of shoes and enjoy the (maybe temporary) curvy and sassy you.
I hope you have a fab time at the wedding.

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 21:03

I love them both. But the first one gets my vote.

I agree, black opaques, black shoes. Clutch to match the pink.

Sleepyfergus · 05/09/2014 21:04

I was in Phase 8 yesterday looking for a dress for a 40th do next weekend. Their dresses are very flattering, and with some support/ control top tights or spans, between them and the clever ruching and style, you'll look lovely.

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 21:04

And don't worry, you will look gorgeous.

Sleepyfergus · 05/09/2014 21:05

Oops, spans = spanx

HappyGirlNow · 05/09/2014 21:05

First one - it's beautiful. You'll look lovely.

ineedsomeinspiration · 05/09/2014 21:18

I have one like the printed crush from phase eight just a different colour. I still very much have a mummy tummy and it's extremely flattering.

Twinklestein · 05/09/2014 21:26

I don't think those dresses would be flattering in a 16, they'll cling to lumps and bumps.

What about this not quite so clingy, or this
