So what are some non-frumpy looks for AW

...that busy mums can wear, and can also be worn outside in the rain?

I looked at those others threads and basically everything including the standard trendy mum uniform was seen as frumpy. I want some examples of non-frumpiness for normal people!

no leather skirts are just loose women all over

tethersend · 05/09/2014 19:45

Oh no, I love a leather skirt. With gold lurex knitwear.

Twinklestein · 05/09/2014 19:46

I wear wool dresses all the way through winter, they're much more comfy than jeans.

lordnoobson · 05/09/2014 19:46

and a pocketful of show tunes

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 19:47

Hahaha god that's an awful image. I'm not sure I agree, though. I do think they can very quickly go wrong, but I have one and I just tone it right down. I wear it for luscious texture rather than as obvious leather, if that makes sense. I'm fairly certain I don't look like desperate middle aged mutton...

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 19:48

I'm going to wear mine with jumpers and shirts/vests. And brogues. But then I do love granny chic.

lordnoobson · 05/09/2014 19:48

I rest my case

In any format it is wrong. Its everywhere. it IS the breton top and parka of the winter.

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 19:50

Oh dear. Bless them. I really don't want to perpetuate the agist and sexist mutton thing, so I'm not going to judge a woman for wearing what she likes and having a good time with it. but I do think that I myself prefer subtle and elegant.

lordnoobson · 05/09/2014 19:51

the paps must LOVE it when they go out

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 19:51

Meh, I'm quite content to be part of the ubiquitous mass as long as I can be fairly certain it looks ok on me Smile

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 19:51

Masses*

Saurus72 · 05/09/2014 19:54

Apatite your style sounds right up my street. I'm also curvy and discovered dresses a couple of years ago. I love how easy they are, that they can be layered depending on the weather, and I also find it much easier to get ready as there is no co-ordinating required. For weekends, I have a few black dresses that I will wear with flat knee boots or high heeled ankle boots if I need to be a but more dressed up, eg, for a nice restaurant. For work, I like pencil skirts (black, navy, red, black again) with heels or ankle boots, with a silk top,or a merino wool jumper. Done. Definitely easier having a 'uniform' I reckon.

Also hoping Liberty do the Nike X trainers again in Ovtober, I really want a pair.

tethersend · 05/09/2014 19:55

In my mind it's like the other one from Belle du Jour. Her with the gold jumper.

i am sure you will look lovely Holg

BriarRainbowshimmer · 05/09/2014 19:56

C'mon show us some pics of the leather skirt in action Smile

OP posts:
HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 19:57

I dunno, I may be slightly too hippy (as in hips) to properly rock the look - I am not nineteen any longer, sigh - but I'm going to give it a go anyway Smile

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 19:59

I have no pics but I will show you the burgundy one I love if I can find the link

Love that look.

Sadly, I do not have the budget for it

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 20:02

The skirt I do have is this one:

I think the wool panels tones it down nicely.

Needless to say I will not be wearing it with that top!

7Days · 05/09/2014 20:03

That is way nicer than I imagined, Holger (in the nicest possible way)

lordnoobson · 05/09/2014 20:03

i would only consider suede I think. I prefer suede generally

BriarRainbowshimmer · 05/09/2014 20:03

It looks nice but personally I can't see myself walking in the rain carrying groceries wearing it

OP posts:
lordnoobson · 05/09/2014 20:05

or at work - imagine!

So I could only wear.... er....

BriarRainbowshimmer · 05/09/2014 20:05

Wow look at the model's feet! I don't think I want to be trendy anymore...

HolgerDanske · 05/09/2014 20:05

True. I kind of forgot that this was supposed to be about day to day wear with children and school runs and so on. Mine are older now.
