Getting desperate - where can I find a great jacket?

I need a smart cream/black jacket for a wedding - have looked in all the usuals, I think. I don't want to look like my mother nor like a turkey ready for the Christmas oven, which seems to be the only alternative so far. Please help!

What are you going to wear it with?

I have a great black Vivienne Westwood jacket that looks good over dresses, though it is, alas, about five years old and so probably not available anymore.

Smart black trousers and a very lovely cream big hat. will have a look at VW now. I am best looking simple

Have you looked at Zara and the outnet? They have quite a few nice jackets.

On me that would look really boxy but if it would suit you, it is lovely.

Discounting the ones that are a bit ouch-like in terms of cost, how about this one or is it too white rather than cream?

Or slightly more eye watering but v stunning:

Hmmm - boxy is not good on me! Curvy is better. I usually buy at Phase 8, Jigsaw that sort of thing, but they are hopeless ATM

I have been reading the frumpy thread and it rings a few too many bells

You sound like me re curvy (and wanting to avoid frumpy!).

For jackets on me the best ones are along the tuxedo / blazer lines: fitted / tailored at the waist, a deep 'V', only one or two buttons and finish on the hip bone ie not too long. Lapels not too wide either.

Not sure if any if that sounds like it applies to you?

Apollinare · 05/09/2014 19:53

yes it does, and the 'not too long' - it seems a bit of a given that curvy people need long, but a long jacket makes me look stumpy!
