The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

Well, who'd have known it, MrsS?Grin

The school that one of my friends' sons go to streams them for PE which has been brilliant for them, especially the least sporty who came into his own when with others at the same level as him. Same they don't do it everywhere and tailor the courses to suit the kids.

motherinferior · 18/09/2014 16:44

I'm still not sure how much I enjoy Ladyjogging. I do enjoy the effects, though.

motherinferior · 18/09/2014 16:46

And I can't hate it all that much, as I've been three times this week.

bigTillyMint · 18/09/2014 17:00

Cremo, just thinking about your DD - how is she getting on?

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/09/2014 19:28

I was thinking about Crem's DD earlier too. How are things, Crem?

I'm another one who was utterly, utterly dismal at sports at school. Really, so bad. Just me and Janet (the class weed); the last two to be picked for the team, every single time. Each summer we had to earn House Points by achieving "Standards" in various athletics disciplines; most people achieved three or four. Failure to achieve any at all earned your House minus ten points. Shamefully, in seven years of boarding school I managed just ONE solitary Standard. Blush Just like MI, I am amazed that I have discovered the ladyjog, even if it took me until the age of 43. Knowing my background, none of my childhood friends can quite believe that I can sustain a jogging pace for more than about 20 seconds.

Rose - what a perfectly worded email. The highest achievers get all the praise, the strugglers get all the support, and it is so often the quietly accomplished who get left out.

Meanwhile Christmas is starting to take shape. Looks like we will be having 13 for Christmas Day, then 11 (different crowd) for Boxing Day. Stressing already....argh....

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/09/2014 23:58

I was reasonably sporty until the mid 90s. I used to play a lot of squash, and managed to slip a disc twice. Was told not to play again Sad and that's when the weight piled on. I have flirted with tennis over the years (used to play in Paris) but I really liked squash, and it's not the same.

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2014 06:45

So, we still have our Union Jack. What a turn out!

hattymattie · 19/09/2014 06:53

This morning finds me much relieved by the no vote in Scotland.

Apart from that I have a plaster in my mouth because of my tooth operation yesterday. This means I can't drink alcohol or eat curry - a sad week indeed. Otherwise so far it hurts less than I imagined so I'm crossing my fingers.

I was crap at sports at school and was one of the girls who pretended to have her period BTMWink. In hockey I always jumped away from the ball as the pain when it hit my shins was too much to bear. School sports was always dominated by a cluster of big scary girls. Like Herbs, I didn't realise sport could be a pleasure until I started working and swimming every week. I do like hiking though - especially any route which includes a pub for lunch. I've also done some high mountain walks with DH in the Alps (although unfortunately not many pubs there). I can't do that much anymore though as I have a rickety knee.

How is the "yes" campaign going chez Herbs?

I am also waiting from report backs from Crem and LalsySmile .

MontserratCaballe · 19/09/2014 06:59

Hurray for the union - so glad it was a No vote.

Sports - rubbish at them at school and hated it. I used to do the shot with 2 friends so we could go to a far flung corner of the field and sit under a tree. WHen anyone was near we would leap into action, otherwise we sat and chatted, rolling the ball in some dust then on our necks to make it look as though we had made an effort. My 15 year old self would not believe how much I like walking and swimming now. Next thing to conquer - the ladyjog. Watch this space.

I am off to breakfast at the Wolseley this morning. A lovely birthday treat from some fab friends at school. Can't wait.

Rosebag · 19/09/2014 07:08

My goodness, CV that is the perfect line….says it in one. I shall be quoting or maybe misquoting you from now on.

Rudy why do you think you're light years behind everyone? We all have a wealth of experience and much to offer by the time we are crepeys….never do yourself down.

DS is less upset now that he's seen the head of his year who was so nice to him. But he's' going down with a cold. I've just seen him off to school and threw a couple of nurofen down his neck. I want to mother him but at the same time, I want to wail…"oh no, don't bring viruses in to the house…."

Today I am Ddad- sitting. DM has to go for a bone scan and he can't be left. I have cancelled a writing session with ConScript as a result…annoying but surprisingly satisfying….to be the canceller, not the cancellee. But the good news is, the person we want to direct the play has accepted!!! Yay

Have a good Friday!

MontserratCaballe · 19/09/2014 07:18

Great news about your play, Rose. Hope things OK for your mum. Absolutely agree about the quietly accomplished. Your son looks wonderful in that picture. A very handsome fellow. You deserve to be a very proud mama.

Hatty, how is tooth this morning?

lalsy · 19/09/2014 07:27

Rudy, my lack of achievement spreads way beyond sporting prowess Grin.

Yay for the union - I've found the overseas news so upsetting and the UK news so eyeball-poppingly dull.

Hatty, dd seems fine, and hasn't been in touch much. She's had quite a few academic induction sessions - practice lectures and the like I think - this week (which is a really good idea in freshers' week I think, gives them proper structure) so had had to get up in the mornings, and has been going to some social things (mainly connected with her departments I think - she has two as doing JH). I'm not really sure - from a little I am getting she sounds quite calm and cheerful if a little flummoxed by how t meet people, and I haven't wanted to press her for more. I hope to talk her through switching a washing machine on this weekend!

Auriga · 19/09/2014 07:40

Yes, immensely relieved here too. Heartened by the turnout, too.

Process of separating from this job turns out to be exhausting and, at times, sad. Still, think I'm doing the right thing .

Some arm-twisting from new employer to start early but have other work booked: also a concert & recording with the choir and a holiday Grin

cremolafoam · 19/09/2014 07:43

Seriously, is there no other news in the world AT ALL?

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 19/09/2014 07:49

CremoShock Bored with it?!
So how is your DD doing?

Wishing you strength Auriga - look towards all the nice stuff.

Blackduck · 19/09/2014 07:51

Augira what's the new job?

Cremo - unfortunately I think we'll have a lot more of this for a time Hmm

Glad all Uni peeps are settled.
Here we are about to source the third locker - don't ask..... And battle of the kitchen continues

The 'no' campaign is still holding sway with miniHerbs, but I've just learned that yet another of his friends will be starting at the new school next week, which may add a grain of sand to my side of the scales.

Because of his eye he has to have a care plan made up, and we have an appointment with the school nurse on Tuesday. I foresee great problems getting him there. But the rather officious admissions woman won't move the appointment to the day he actually starts - Thursday. Now I'm afraid if he won't go to the appointment, we won't be able to take the place. Surely this can't be?

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2014 08:45

Herbs, don't panic! I am sure they won't take the place away. Is it absolutely definite he has to see the nurse before he starts? If you spoke to the HT, could they defer till after he starts?

If not, could you just matter-of-factly say he has an appointment with a nurse to check his eye and not actually say it's at the school till you get there IYSWIM?

motherinferior · 19/09/2014 08:50

Herbs, just say it's an eye appt. Thanks

I would like it on record I have completed my fourth Ladyjog of the week. Aiming to get back into feeling it is better to have jogged and lost than never to have jogged at all. Or something.

herbaceous · 19/09/2014 08:53

Wish I could still ladyjog, but my knees just won't take it. I think I am chronically misaligned. Hence ineptitude at sport, perhaps?

The admissions lady is something of a dragon. I might try and circumvent her, but don't want to piss her off.

In S&B news, my hair is a hideous pile of madness. I'm getting it cut next Wednesday, and cannot wait. Though have yet to find a style in which to get it done...
