Forever Autumn Forever Crepey

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

Cremo, Smile.

Herbs, even when my dd was having a completely rubbish time, she said she didn't want to move schools. They just imagine the worst bits multiplied.

CointreauVersial · 15/09/2014 23:07

Oh blimey, Herbs, a tough few days ahead. But children are so fickle adaptable at that age; even if DS decides he'd rather stay where he is, you can bet that within a few days of the new school he wouldn't want to go back. STICK WITH IT.

Careers evening at the school this evening....DS didn't want to come, as he went last year and had too much homework (yeah, right) to catch up on. DD1 has now narrowed down her future career to either a) interior designer, b) photographer or c) solicitor. I'm voting c). Grin

CointreauVersial · 15/09/2014 23:08

And Crem, sounds like DD is settling in....

Auriga · 15/09/2014 23:30

Wow, who knew there were so many uses for evaporated milk?

Work was tough, choir was great. I'm getting a cold: hideous timing, though what timing would be good for a cold?

Keep thinking of more things I should do before I leave this job: maybe trying to assuage survivor guilt by making it even harder for myself.

QQ, hope conference going well.

Herbs, well done. KBO. He'll thank you eventually, probably quite soon.

Did you know that if you fail to register to vote you can now be fined £80? Shouldn't we have been consulted about this? Or did I miss a meeting? Are we turning Australian?

So many questions...

MontserratCaballe · 16/09/2014 06:01

Herbs, is there a website you can show him which would make him excited about the school? Ours has blogs showing what each class has been up to with lots of pics of the kids, plus music, PE, IT etc etc. There is likely to be a school council too, given what you have said about the ethos of the school. Might make him feel a bit more excited about the change. Get the form back today then you are all done. Stand firm and brook no discussions about it. I think you said tomorrow is the viewing day. Hope that goes really well.

CV, I am a c) and I now teach other people how to become one.

Auriga, I didn't know that about the vote and hope now that I did not bin the electoral thing that came round a few weeks back. Sorry about your cold. Can you take lots of vit c / good drugs to stave it off. I feel a bit bleurgh as well and it's my birthday tomorrow so wanted to be in top nick, even though I am going to be at work. Can't even do anything le soir as DH's job is being rather buggered about with because of the referendum s o he's not really home til 10ish on a good night right now. This pattern will continue for aaaaaaages if there is a Yes vote. Am waiting for Thursday's result with some hesitation. Looks like my birthday night will be having a glass of wine with the nanny and then watching GBBO with the children......

Have a good day everyone

Blackduck · 16/09/2014 08:50

Herbs adding to the chorus of 'he'll be fine' - he will really, and the sooner you do it the better!

MC - any chance you could help me become one, or am I simply too old? (eyes the legal career she should have had)

Here I am about to murder dp who has done a mammoth 'tidy the kitchen' session. This involves hiding/piling the crap elsewhere in the house to produce one totally clear surface which if you put anything down on he huffs and moves. this is not helpful as I have no idea where ds's lunchbox is, and I don't see that moving something from one side of the kitchen to the other is actually tidying up.......

Blackduck · 16/09/2014 08:51

Oh Cremo - glad to hear dd is fine :)

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2014 09:22

Monty, hope your birthday night isn't too sad - is it Thurs?

DH, who is an avid news-watcher, is very cheesed off with all the Scotland coverageConfused

Blackduck · 16/09/2014 09:26

BTM I am very cheesed off with all the Scotland coverage too..... can we get it over with now?

herbaceous · 16/09/2014 09:33

I just hope it will be a resounding 'no'. If it's a yes, the news will be full of the painful process if detaching itself from the uk, and Alex Salmond's fat face everywhere. If it's a marginal no vote, we'll still have Alex Salmond's fat face everywhere, whining how it's not fair.

The only good thing about a yes vote would be no more tedious episodes of Question Time from Dundee all about devolution, with a Scottish celeb wheeled in, such as Eddie Reader.

In school news: just picked up official transfer form, filled in and signed by head. No personal interaction necessary. Everyone very friendly this morn, so now once more wracked with guilt. I find being two-faced almost physically painful.

Blackduck · 16/09/2014 10:30

You are not being two faced Herbs. You are doing what's best for miniHerbs ...

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2014 11:06

Agree that we don't want to see Alex Salmond's fat face any more!

Herbs, you are too niceSmile

lalsy · 16/09/2014 11:26

You really are not being two-faced Herbs. You have flagged up the problems, clearly and reasonably, your concerns have been accepted but not addressed, and now it is time to move on. The head cannot be surprised - this is what people do, especially in London where often there is a bunfight at 4 but a year later there are three schools within walking distance that have spaces. She is a twit if she takes it personally.

motherinferior · 16/09/2014 11:54

Honestly, Herbs, it's like musical chairs round here.

In S&B news, my DMs have arrived. DD2 said she didn't madly like them but that on the other hand it was nice that I wasn't just giving in to Mum Fashion.

motherinferior · 16/09/2014 12:07

I have just had a text from the school about a 'getting to know you' session tomorrow. At 3.30. I have to work, dammit.

Blackduck · 16/09/2014 12:12

MI - tell me about it - first equiv of PTA is at 3.30 on Thursday and the open afternoon in Oct is also 3.30......

Don't parents of children in secondary work ?

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2014 13:01

At least ours don't usually start till 5pm!

hattymattie · 16/09/2014 13:13

Alex Salmond makes my skin crawl and feel irrationally angry. I cannot how people find him credible. He has zero charisma.

Rosebag · 16/09/2014 14:01

crem sounds really good!
Agree Auriga no really good time for a cold. Get well and don't feel guilty about the job if it's the right decision for you in the long run.
Ah, Monty don't be sad on your birthday….are you on fb? Then we can all add you and post lots of cheerful happy Birthday messages for you. Can you do something nice at the weekend? Its DS1's birthday today…he's 27…the age I was when I had him Shock
herbs you are most certainly not being two faced. You are voting with your feet. About the school that is. Grin Grin Grin about the salmons fat face….
I have a sixth form meeting at 5pm tomorrow evening….even that is a terrible time to get there…a 25 min journey takes an hour and 10 at that time. Angry
Now I have to sit cluelessly at the piano and try to plonk out some suitable chords to accompany choir tonight in the absence of Madame Maestro the Terrible. It's the cheat's way but somewhat effective if ones sight reading is embarrassingly slow and one is passably good at improvisation. Tra la la

herbaceous · 16/09/2014 14:17

Our choir accompanist is an absurdly talented young man on whom I have an aforementioned Mum Crush. He performs in the Purcell Rooms, is in the 'Park Lane Group' (some kind of 'ones to watch' of young musicians), got the highest ever mark at Trinity, and yet is really normal and nice. He played something in our concert on Friday which must have required at least four hands. We keep thinking he's going to leave us for something frankly more his standard.

Rosebag · 16/09/2014 16:22

Your choir are so much more accomplished that us, Herbs, of that I'm sure. Not that our pianist is bad…she's very good. I'm just terrified of her….

Well, i have taught myself to plonk play an accompaniment of sorts to 'Fix You', 'The Seal Lullaby', 'Castle in A Cloud' and 'Bring him home' and that will have to do, for which they are all learning 4 parters. Major irritation…the Yamaha won't work on account of DS2 having put something in a USB port that I can't find…headphones, probably…so had to do it all on silly kids keyboard Angry I now have a headache for which only codeine will do. It's my choir headache….

Rosebag · 16/09/2014 16:24

ps MI I bought Psychologies today. Saving it to read later with tea and choccy biscuits after choir Smile

motherinferior · 16/09/2014 16:29

I am editing a particularly fabulous work of deathless prose Wink and am roasting frozen butternut squash chunks with cumin and coriander, to whizz into a soup later. DD1 has just informed me she had butternut squash curry for lunch. Grin

Blackduck · 16/09/2014 16:36

I was worried ds wasn't eating enough at school until I checked parent pay....... one cheese Panini at break yesterday and nachos plus the works today Hmm

herbaceous · 16/09/2014 16:42

I know your pain, MI, trying to trim down tightly written brilliance. [winky wanky face]

Collared at school gate by senior teacher who wanted to tell me how marvellous it is that DS is on the school council....
