The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

Bon voyage, Crem!

MI, definitely cave in - it shows you were listening to her and taking her issues seriously. The links are to do with Adware - see Site Stuff - you need to close down and re-boot. I've got rid of them now by doing that.

I told the dc's respective schools when their grandparents were very sick over a long period. I think the schools weren't quite sure what to do about it - iirc they offered a listening ear if required. With hindsight, ds was more worried about me - obvious in retrospect of course. It might be a good idea for dd2's form teacher to be aware. "Unusual circumstances at home which can cause distress and sudden absences of dmum" - that kind of thing.

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/09/2014 09:31

Oh PE kit... DD2 called last night and asked if she could have a "skort" for PE as all the other girls have them and she is the only one who has shorts. What is wrong with shorts? The shorts were on the list last year and we got them from the school... but no, this year everyone has skorts. I have accepted defeat, and told her to go and get one from the school shop.

Well we are not quite one week into the term, and DD2 wants to give up Japanese, which she pleaded to do last year, and do football instead. DD1 wants to give up Chemistry "because I am crap at it and just don't get it" and do "Environmental Science" instead.

DD1 told me that she has outgrown my DMs (which she took without my consent) and has passed them onto DD2.

Mrs S, as an alternative to 'blue-arsed fly' weekend shopping, couldn't you do a lot of it online and get it delivered to their school? You might have to deal with returns, but still may lighten the load.

Good luck crem! Have you packed the grater?

motherinferior · 11/09/2014 09:52

Yes, agree with Herbs. It'll also shift some of the responsibility onto them.

herbaceous · 11/09/2014 09:58

Grr. One of the school mums struck up conversation today (something of a rarity), we talked about our children for a bit, then she said 'doesn't DS ever ask why he hasn't got a brother or sister'? Cheeky moo. Didn't see why I should spare her embarrassment, so just said 'I was 43 when I had him, and though I would have liked more, appear to be past it.' This didn't seem to put her off her stride, and she just asked how my labour was, seeing as I was So Old.

Blackduck · 11/09/2014 10:07

MI - agree with the others - get the logo'd one.... (I know it's a bloody cheek schools do this to us, but if it makes her feel she 'fits'......)

Herbs how rude!

beachyhead · 11/09/2014 10:20

Good luck Crem. It's so exciting for both of you.....That'll be me, this time next year. We are off on our first Open Day today, haven't really got my head around the application thing yet, but I need to get on it, quickly!

Dd2 school is going well. Homework was underway on the first day for her - two sets the first night in Year 5 !!! Rotten.

I think you will have to cave on the shirt, MI. Just one of those 'fitting in' things. They'll all be in non - logo'ed shirts soon, when they lose/stain/forget to wash theirs.....

Ds has taken up martial arts - 'mixed martial arts' which, from what I can tell, appears to be the formal name for cage fighting Shock. His gym is very macho and is called 'Grit' or 'Sweat' or similar....I shall reserve judgement, but his fitness levels have rocketed.

motherinferior · 11/09/2014 10:42

I conducted a Ladyjog this morning, which was rather refreshing (I realised I hadn't left the house yesterday - admittedly Exceptional Circs but no wonder I felt like a dog that hadn't been taken for a walk) though am managing to get not very much done today. I'm supposed to be writing a feature on 'how to lose weight without really trying'. I've been Not Really Trying for years, and has the weight dropped off? That would be a no.

I've written this feature SO MANY times...

herbaceous · 11/09/2014 11:45

Inspired by a thread on here, I am contemplating getting all my hair chopped off. I'm sick of it just hanging there, looking shit. I used to have a pixie cut, and loved it, but was two stone lighter, so had a lot less chin. And, of course, it was pre-jowls.

Would I look like a cross between Ellen and Dame Judi, or fat and male?

Blackduck · 11/09/2014 11:53

Here the homework is Extended Learning Assignments - first up- science......

Rosebag · 11/09/2014 11:54

MI joining the ranks of get the monogrammed one. My parents would never cave in over anything. It was like " what do you need that for?" They just didn't appreciate the importance of not being the odd one out at that age.
herbs that woman was really inappropriate and naive. I teach loads of women in their 40's having their first and often, only. It's pretty mainstream these days. What planet is she on?

Homework has to be is the worst invention in the history of man, and the cause of all evil in the world. It radicalises parents. DD has come home with physics..." Design an information booklet......" Know the sort? I am hiding under the duvet, plotting how to blow up the school.

How to lose weight without really trying. Hmm.... vanity sizing and gastroenteritis. Grin

Well one good thing has happened today....it seems that an organisation for which I have been teaching under supervision, for a year or so on its tutor training programme has passed me and I have been elevated to Tutor Status. Yay

Blackduck · 11/09/2014 12:13

Rosebag congrats...

I have to admit I am dreading the DT ELA.......... but looking forward to reading week as I am hoping that they are doing 'Black Swan Green' - quite like to re-read it with ds.

beachyhead · 11/09/2014 12:49

I think you would suit it shorter and maybe sharpen it up a bit, Herbs. I only have one friend who carries off a pixie crop and she is teeny weeny. Other short styles, like above hairline sharp bobs or long shaggy tops with undercut at back maybe better.

I need to do something radical with mine as I'm in that post summer straw phase.

That women in the playground was very rude. I'd be tempted to tell her some extraordinary porkie like you has six previous children who were eaten by cannibals on a trip to New Guinea, then lightly dab your eyes... After all you are leaving Grin

beachyhead · 11/09/2014 12:51

You had.... Sorry

herbaceous · 11/09/2014 12:57

That's it, beachy. It needs to be in a 'style' of some sort. In the way that Mary Portas has a style. Though maybe not her mega-bob - it would show off my jowls too much.

My old hairdresser was ace and would suggest radical hairdos that I'd never dare have otherwise. Current one is a bit less imaginative.

motherinferior · 11/09/2014 13:11

I am growing my hair slightly. It looks like a hat. Or possibly a smallish rabid furry animal sitting on my head.

My parents took a lot of pride in being Different. This was not necessarily constructive.

bigTillyMint · 11/09/2014 13:11

Herbs, why not go to your/a recommended hairdresser and see what sort of style they think would be best - there could be quite a variation in pixie styles!
And Shock of socially/emotionally unaware other mother.

MI, I agree on caving. If it gets wrecked, she can go back to the other. I remember wearing home-made uniform - the horrorShock

Flowers Rose!

Re homework in Y7, DD was inundated from day1 - I am sure that was the start of her decline into anxiety about under-performanceSad

bigTillyMint · 11/09/2014 13:13

MI, so did my mumAngry It was HORRIBLE having a slightly eccentric mother. I just wanted to be like everyone else!

motherinferior · 11/09/2014 13:22

My kids already have a slightly eccentric mother Blush. We'll get her the logoed one at the weekend. Above all, I want her to feel that if she's bothered about something she can say so and that we will try to sort it out.

herbaceous · 11/09/2014 13:30

My parents also liked being 'different'. Most of the time I admired them, but just sometimes I wished my dad wouldn't come to one of my concerts with half a beard. ie, with one half of his face bearded and moustached, the other not.

motherinferior · 11/09/2014 13:48

Herbs Shock

DD2 is definitely much much more worried about standing out than DD1. Who is a total luvvie, and flings herself around her mates all the time (which is probably why she has nits). I am sure that once she chills out a bit and realises that other people aren't laughing at her, she'll calm down about it all. Or I hope so, anyway. She's a bright, sociable friendly child. Just gets herself in a State.

Herbs seriously!?

A friend of mine spent her school years with her name lovingly embroidered in large font across her chest (her mother had taken labelling literally)......

:) at rabid furry animal MI - I love your hair.....

herbaceous · 11/09/2014 13:58

Rudy - what are you having done?

The girl behind us in Tas did have lovely hair, but I fear requires a lot of styling to look good. I need something I can just wash n go. And yes, taking two bottles into the shower.

bigTillyMint · 11/09/2014 13:59

Rudy, new style?
