How often and how much...?

If you are stylish and keep up with latest fashions (I'm not talking mega fashionista, need to keep it real) how often do you but new things and how much do you spend?

In recent years I seem to have got into a cycle of doing a massive online spree, wearing to destruction and repeating. I think I'd be better buying things more often which should help keep me a bit more current, but would love some guidance.

Actually going shopping isn't really an option with 2 young kids and a lot on, so would love to hear what others do - where do you shop and where do you get your ideas from?

Thanks in advance Smile

And ps what's your split of buying work clothes vs leisure stuff? I work 4 days but tend to just cycle the same things, over and over and over again...

In the past year I have probebly spent thousands on work clothes & shoes.

I must admit that as I hurtle head forward into the next decade I'm looking at building a wardrobe of things which are both comfortable and practical. Brands I like are Levi's curve, Boden, DMs, Birkenstocks etc. I buy quite a bit online and need to either finally lose the 2 stone in the next year or sell all of my non-fitting clothing on eBay.

As to how much, well it's difficult to quantify. £100 per month?

Work: 25% (public sector 2-3 days per week)
Ideas: Pinterest boards!

I spend way more on work clothes but I have an office job for a retailer (fashion) so need to look the part if you know what I mean. I just live in comfy clothes on the weekends so jeans/shorts etc and dont spend that much. Work I like to have something different to wear every day, mainly dresses to save stressing (and ironing) and different shoes every day too. Couldnt put a figure on it, at least 200 a month, maybe more (probably more but that's a whole other thread )

I tend to buy things to last, so with the intention of wearing them loads. It goes in waves really - some seasons I just can't see much I like so I'll only buy essentials like tights or a new bikini. But then in other years one of the shops I like will have a really good collection, so I'll stock up.

I'm not really that trendy though, so I suppose it's more classic things. On the one hand they aren't that cool; one the other hand they don't go out of style...

If I need ideas, spending a few hours in a large department store is a good use of time, as you can see all the differ concessions. I also shop online at John Lewis, Boden, Isabella Oliver etc. I have actually never calculated how much I spend. Maybe a couple of thousand a year?

I have a basic range of classic stuff (lots of vintage, plus good quality basics) and then do an update each season. The update is always cheaper stuff, then often I'll find a style or colour from that season that particularly suits me and that I love, so I'll buy better quality versions of that which last longer.

The cheap update is usually around £100 every three months, with probably another £100 every three months on two or three more upmarket bits. I'm a student at the moment, so don't wear anything different for that!
