Berry lipstick recommendations for bride

Hey MNers,

I am going to be doing my own bridal make-up, but have run into a problem when finding a lipstick.

I am going for a vintage look for the wedding, but look like a clown in red lipstick. What I am desperately hunting for is a berry lipstick, which I can blot in a way that gives the "I'm not wearing lipstick I've just been eating a fuckton of berries" type of look.

I'm going to be wearing eyeliner and probably some subtle fake lashes, but it looks very flat with a nude lip colour.

Can anyone give me any recommendations?? Please?!?

I have pale skin and light brown hair that borders on blonde (which is my natural colour).

BobbI Brown one very dark sheer - need to reapply very often though.
one of the new Coco Shines is just like that.

Also Lipstick Queen Medieval - which sadly lasts moments though.

If you want a stain try the Max Factor felt tip pens - there are two berry shades there and they last.

I haven't heard of any of those so will try a google search to find the colours.

I think a sort of berry/wine shade would be great if possible.

I like:

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in 08 Grandest Grape. It's a little bit sheer and shiny. A blue toned berry tone.

Mac Media - very dark purple berry tone. Quite matte on the lips. Reminds me of a more pigmented and matte version of Tom Ford Black Orchid (the Tom Ford one is lovely too but is discontinued).

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in 327 La Desiree - the warmest toned of these, red wine colour.

Guerlain Rouge G in 70 Gigolo - a tad more warm than Grandest Grape. More pigmented and not massively shiny.

They all look great worn as a stain.

Gigolo looks fantastic - I like the look of Media, but it's difficult to get an accurate idea of colour as it seems to vary so dramatically from picture to picture.

I was after something matte, but since I'll be blotting the hell out of it I don't think a non matte would be a problem. I'll deffo be trying the gigolo one as soon as possible, but welcome any other suggestions so I can try a ton out in one trip!

My absolute favourite berry lipstick is Nars Afghan Red. Gorgeous colour and so flattering. Red but not too red. You can use one coat and blot it for the eating berries look, or build it up for a more intense look. Lasts well.

What about Benetint? Can be tricky to apply but I love it for that berry stain look. I layer it so it's deeper in the middle of my lips. And it stays on forever!

Media is very dramatic when worn full on, but as a stain it's very pretty and wearable.

I've taken a picture of Media and Gigolo to give you an idea of how they compare. I've blended them out a little bit at the bottom, which should (hopefully) give you an idea of how they'd look as a stain.

Sounds like I have similar coloring to you and I use Bobbi brown sheer in pink rose for that effect (which is not particularly pink or rosy)

kaykayblue · 29/08/2014 15:25

The NARS one I will try, but I think it might be a bit too red - red is definitely something I want to avoid as I have light eyes and it always seems to stand out so much.

Benetint - I actually have benetint! I used to use it on my lips all the time, and although it is absolutely beautiful, I think I need something with a little more pigment in it. The problem I normally find is that the colour doesn't stay very well and fades very quickly. I think it tends to work best when you use it on your cheeks as well, as it really accentuates the "flushed" look. Unfortunately I am going to have to use powder blush and I am using a matte MAC foundation. They do not combine well. I know this through experience....

I am falling more and more in love with the guerlain gigolo one though - it looks stunning. For my wedding I am willing to shell out the cash for the right colour, although I might wince a bit at the till!

The Mac media..I think it's going to be too purple. With my pale arse skin (which I plan to accentuate rather than tan up) I would run the risk of looking like I had hypothermia.

I've checked out the Bobbi brown colour - I think it would definitely suit me, but wouldn't be quite dark enough for what I am after.

It's a winter wedding and all indoors so I need something that's dark enough to not get washed out in the lighting (mainly candle light and open fires) but not so dark I look like a goth. I think the Gigolo colour - if I layer it up and blot it properly might give the "my lips are this sexy because I've been biting them not because I'm wearing lipstick" effect.

I'm definitely still going to try some of the other recommendations though!!

I can't quite get my pic as neat as carpaccios but this is the Bobbie Brown on the heel of my hand

Pastperfect · 29/08/2014 15:36

Bobbie brown

Nonemoreblack · 29/08/2014 16:43

Clinique 'almost lipstick' in Black Honey is a beautiful shade, but maybe not intense enough for you? Perhaps layering it might help..

MooMinCow · 29/08/2014 17:28

Not sure if its dark enough but Soap & Glory do some lovely matte lipsticks. Pom Pom is a lovely berry pink shade. Looks quite vintagey on the girl in this pic

Cheesymonster · 29/08/2014 17:29

Mac plumful or revlon lip butter in berry smoothie?

elephanteraser · 29/08/2014 17:34

Laura Mercier temptation is lovely sheer but gorg colour

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 29/08/2014 17:55

Stila pomegranate crush. It's a lip stain so matte and lasts for ages. An amazing colour - your lips only better if you do it lightly, but builds to the berry stained look you're describing if you put more on.
