At my wits end with bras!

CripesItsTheGasMan · 28/08/2014 14:52

I had a bra intervention a while back and my measurements told me to try 34f/36e . I tried 34dd, e and f but the 34 band was sooo tight that it hurt and left marks that didn't fade for almost a day Confused

I'm now wearing a 36d after trying it on in the shop but now I've been wearing it for a few days it still doesn't feel 'right'. I've scooped but there's still a lot of space in the cups.

I'm at a loss what to do now,I just want a comfy fitting bra Sad

I'm hinting now for a day out shopping just so I can go there. By the time petrol, Parking and lunch comes into it it's £50 before I've even bought a bra.

Bring a packed lunch Wink

It is expensive but I bought 4 bras for about £115 and don't plan on buying anymore until they wear out.

CripesItsTheGasMan · 29/08/2014 15:30

Looks like itl be birthday/Xmas presents Grin which I don't mind as long as I find comfort at last! DP can go off with DD and leave me to it.

Link please to something plausible, balconette, or 1/2 cup that Debenham's or house of Fraser might stock, so I can have a trying on session, once DDs are at school.

I'm massively pissed off with M&S and my local independent is no help, she is still old school.

CripesItsTheGasMan · 29/08/2014 18:17

I went into M&S to try on bras few weeks back and after last time they fitted me(38a Shock) I turned down the fitters offer to measure me.

A woman came in and asked to be measured and I wanted to shout 'nooooo don't do it' . She was about a size 8/10 and the fitter put her in a 34c..which is funny since it's saying I should be a 34 and I'm a size 14

It's panache melody full cup, I can't tell you how much it hurts! Yes I am scooping.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/08/2014 20:59

Panache have very, very stiff wires. If you've already taken the tag off then you can very gently bend the wires out just a tiny bit so they're not pressing as much

treaclesoda · 29/08/2014 21:05

dosy I can't wear Panache bras at all, even though I know my correct size, because the wires stab me really badly. So I'd take a guess that it might not be the sizing that is the problem, but the brand.

OP, you had mentioned measuring as a 34F and then trying a 34DD and finding it far too tight, and I think from reading threads on here that seems to be quite a common problem, that people can get their head round the idea of going down in the back, but not going up in the cup (either because they hate the idea of being such a 'big' cup size, or because they consider themselves flat chested and don't believe they could possibly be such a cup size). But I suppose if you think about it, that's like measuring your hips and discovering that your measurements indicate size 14 trousers and then thinking the calculation must be wrong because you've tried on a 10 and they're too small. I mean, obviously the measurements are just a starting point and there is variation within styles and manufacturers, but I suppose what I'm trying to say is don't be put off!

ElephantsNeverForgive · 29/08/2014 23:58

I just loath the price and styling of large cupped bras.

I don't want to be trussed up like a chicken in lace and three inch wide straps. I find bras hot and uncomfortable.

I don't want anything more substantial than a teens bra, with underwires.

I'm only wearing the stupid things because convention (and the cut of some clothes give me no choice).

I'd much rather not bother.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 30/08/2014 00:01

my straps are only skinny Elephants Grin. much thinner than on my old 36cs.

They had tshirt style bras when I was in bravissimo and they were nice and plain.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 30/08/2014 00:22

Some of those look OK, but twice what I want to pay.

And I'm still not convinced that a DD or bigger will fit. My boobs are smaller than all, but their skinniest model and she's probably an 8 to my 16

NuggetofPurestGreen · 30/08/2014 00:52

what are your measurements Elephants? (i'm no expert but just interested as the bra intervention worked so well for me).

goodasitgets · 30/08/2014 10:26

Boobs don't always look that big - embarrassing weight loss pic but it's the only one I can find from the side.
And I don't think anyone would guess my bra size right

HazleNutt · 30/08/2014 14:38

M&S would put you in a 36C I bet.

tethersend · 30/08/2014 15:05

Elephants, you need this bra. I'm a 36G and it's the most comfortable bra I've ever worn. It's truly amazing.

CariadsDarling · 30/08/2014 15:29

If someone was staying in a hotel at Heathrow, Bath Road, what would be the best/well stocked/easy to get to Rigby and Peller store to go to for a fitting.

I really do want to have a fitting and be told, yes, we have what you require in stock and available to take away with you. I dont want to be told oh can you come back, we have to order it. The reality is I won't be able to go back. I have one day to do this.

Thank you

SorrelForbes · 30/08/2014 16:40

CariadsDarling You can get the Piccadilly line to Knightsbridge. R&P is right next to Harrods.

They do tend to have a quite a lot of stock, however I found that in bigger cup sizes (I'm a 30GG) there was very little that wasn't full cup or matronly. There's a much bigger choice at Bravissimo IMHO.

CariadsDarling · 30/08/2014 18:12

Thank you :)

INeedSomeHelp · 30/08/2014 18:23

I also have the problem with full cups gaping at the top (although I don't have DCs so can't blame them!). I find the best styles are balcony or half cup. I like the Gorgeous range at Debenhams. Have just got a lovely spotted set in white and it's very comfy so have also bought it in black. They also do it in bright pink or bright orange so I may well end up getting them too. Like a pp said about jeans, if you find a bra that suits buy it in every colour!

ElephantsNeverForgive · 30/08/2014 18:58

Tethers that does indeed look lovely and minimal and cool.

Given it's translucent cups, DH would certainly approve.

tipp2chicago · 03/09/2014 09:12

Hi, sorry to hijack. 34 under (tape very snug) and 48.5 over. Currently wearing a 34GG Freya/Fantasie, but the central gore stands proud but it fits well everywhere else. No backfat/underarm lumps, tiny bit of quadraboob. Full at the bottom, shallow at the top. Basically point straight at the ground. Can't even blame BF, as they were like that before I ever had DD! I can't be a 34H/HH???

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 09:16

If the gore isn't flat you need more cup space so I would go up in the cup. Measurements suggest 34j/jj but I suspect you may be someone who measures bigger than they are and an hh or thereabouts might be better.

tipp2chicago · 03/09/2014 09:32

Thanks Stat! I will wait until I get some Birthday money in October and scoot myself off to the local Debenhams. I may have to order a load online though and get them delivered to store. Our local Debenhams isn't exactly massive.
