I'm going to have Botox done, anything indeed to know?

I've wanted it done for ages. I am a beauty therapist & aged 44 & my forehead lines are showing. DH had kept on saying no due to the cost & upkeep. He has finally agreed. Is there anything I need to know? I am not bothered about the pain as I have a high pain threshold & I'm ok with needles.

I would go by recommendation, if you can.

The best go for a 'light' touch. My man (he is a dentist) gives a very small dose and then gets you back in a few days to assess it and top it up if needs be. He guarantees it for 3 months, but mine lasts around 9.

It doesn't hurt at all and the small swelling you get immediately after is gone within a few minutes.

I think it's the best thing ever. If it's done right, it looks entirely natural and an added bonus for me is that I get no headaches.

Get your eyes done as well as these mythical "11s" ( another thing I don't get - its a deep 1 for me)
And they whiffle on about some Tracy woman.

Anyway - it doesn't hurt although I got a brief headache the first few times. Don't bother keeping to look until day 10 when it looks amazing. Mine would never last 9 months more like 4.

PLus agree - you will never waste money on anti wrinkle creams again

Yes, ask for 'baby' Botox or 'sprinkles. Mine oiks me back two weeks later to tweek if necessary as too little is better than too much. Once it's in, it's in for a good few months and there's nothing you can do.

I get my 11's done (huge forehead and very mobile / expressive face) and a tiny bit around my crows feet. That's it. Just saves me from looking exhausted.

Ah yes, the Tracey woman in Liverpool is meant to be amazing. Too far for me though.

Tracey is Tracey Mountford in London. No idea who Tracey from Liverpool is!! I'd add, don't worry if you get 'spocking' (funny little creases in your eyebrows) - its pretty normal and can quickly be addressed with a return journey and a tiny bit more in the right place.

The more Botox you have the more shiny your skin will be after the treatment. Start with a smaller treatment then go back for a top up if needed, the practitioner can't tell exactly how each person will respond and it's better to do less and add more later.

I have had the 11s done and the outer corners of my eyes.

I got 3 lots over about a 12 month period then left it about 18 months, then 2 more lots about 6 months apart - last shot about 14 months ago. I could do with it again now really, but not desperate; I use it more to stop the over-expression of my eyebrows, to stop the lines from getting too bad (am 39 btw).

I agree re get a half dose, then go back after 5 - 7 days for more if reqd (have always used a dentist too like a previous poster).

As long as you get a thorough consultation by a health professional who offers you the option of follow up - you will be fine. If the clinician knows what they are doing it should "freshen" up your appearance and you shouldn't look "done."

Thanks everyone my friend has recommended me to where she goes. I am not in the UK but it is an English Dr that she goes to here. I thought my friend just had her armpit done as I know she had excessive sweating in one armpit. We had coffee the other day & I thought her forehead looked smooth but it looked very natural. I will ask if I can have it natural & then come back to top up if needed. I've got a quote from another clinic but this Dr is a bit cheaper.

I was thinking of Tracey Bell in Liverpool. She is supposed to be amazing. I've never been but I've seen her mentioned on many a thread (not just Mumsnet).

I went to a beauty clinic once and their nurse gave me spock eyebrows (I should have been warned by the fact that everyone there had spock eyebrows but at the time I didn't know it was a thing). A dentist I had Botox from once gave me the dreaded heavy brow and frozen eyes. I looked like an angry demented person. Not good.
