New winter coat and boots - how often?

How often do people buy new winter boots and coat?

For me, coat - have just bought a new coat for this year. My previous coat did two winters, and the one before that did four.

Boots - I have heeled ankle boots which are two years old and some chunkier ones I got last year so won't replace either, and a 2yo pair of riding boots. So no new boots for me this year.

Was just wondering what others do?

-Not mentioning how many handbags I've bought in that time--

When they wear out. I buy new boots when I fancy them, which isn't often, which is good, because I never buy cheap ones. I have some, too, that are well over a decade old and one pair that is 25-years-old.

Never buy new coats, though, except when needed.

Handbags I buy cheap when I fancy them.

Usually a couple of new pairs of boots a year - I have lots Smile

Winter coat is on its 12th year and still looking good, boredom is starting to set in with it now so may get a new one this year Grin

I bought three pairs of boots last year/early this year, so probably won't get any this year, unless they are an absolute bargain.

I have a couple of good winter coats, so doubt I'll be getting one of those - one is in its 2nd year and the other in its 4th. I'd like a red one - but can't really justify it, so plan to buy a couple of new red scarves instead!

I have a navy boucle boden coat with red buttons that is 6 years old. I wear it on a special occasion. I have a white stuff wool coat..beautiful italian wool and its now on its 3rd year. I still love it. I bought a boden duffle coat last year in the sale. I dont really need any other coats tbh...but it doesnt stop me from looking :)
As for boots, i tend to buy a new pair every year. I love boots and have them in all different styles...biker, long , smart, casual, ankle, lace up!! I bought a pair recently and i wont be buying any more this year.

I buy new boots every year, usually a pair of bear paw ( which I wear to death ) and a pair of rocket dogs. I replace my coats every couple of years unless I see a good bargain.

I have 3 pairs of knee high boots and six pairs of ankle boots. All between 1-5 years old.
I have my eye on another pair of riding boots and 3 pairs of ankle boots for this winter.
I only buy quality boots as I'm an awkward size and buy whenever I can.

Coats last a long time..I rarely walk anywhere so don't need warm coats particularly, although I have them.
Have 2 winter coats, 3 macs and lots of jackets.

This thread is making me feel positively frugal Smile I am fretting as I haven't told DH about the coat (just shy of £200) and I know he'll kick up a stink.

Bootwise, I do fancy some brown lace up flat ones.

I have several coats that cost ££££ so I don't stick to the same one day in day out some are smart and some casual depends on what I am doing/ wearing that day on which I shall be wearing. They also vary in warmth/water proof. Bought a new one suitable for Autumn/spring back in May cannot wait to wear it. Last winter coat was brought winter 2012 after I gained weight and could not fit into anything that one is now way too big now.

Boots and shoes well I buy them when others wear out on the lookout for some new ones this year and have my eye on brand new coat on Ebay

Saurus72 · 23/08/2014 23:38

I have massively, somewhat uncontrolled shopping urges for clothes and handbags, but I buy shoes based on need, and coats even more so. So I have bought a new winter coat for this Winter. I wore my last one for two Winters and the previous one for three. I don't really understand why it is so easy for me to resist impulse shopping for other things, like I do for coats.

Boots when they leak or look too scruffy.

Coat never if DD2 would let me wear my indistructable 16y old fleece, but she won't.

Therefore, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy an expensive Joyles/barbour type coat and chuck out the cheap Sainsbury's one I bought to keep DD quiet.

The wadding in the cheap one doesn't work, it doesn't breath and it's always either to hot or too cold.
