Off to boots later and I'd like to pick up a new lippy to wear for a wedding tomorrow. Would like a bright shade (bright red/coral perhaps? Wearing olive green, black and gold, cool skin tones, dark blonde highlighted hair) that has good staying power but not too drying as my lips chap easily. And a brand they sell at boots! Any tips?

I have your colouring and also like bright colours. I used to love "toffee waffle" (despite the cheap crappy packaging; lid was always coming off in my bag) which I think was by 17 although I'm not 100% sure. I haven't been able to find it recently though so I suspect it may have been discontinued. But noone in boots is ever able to confirm this. They don't seem to have access to that type of information so it may simply have been out of stock when I went!

I scoured the country looking for a replacement though and the closest I came was by Armani (rouge ecstasy is the range I think) and cost about 5 times as much. I have it in my hand now as I was looking for the shade name/number and unbelievably it doesn't have it on the packaging. I think it was "amber" but I'm not sure. Probably not much use to you anyway if you want something from boots but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Bourjois Shine Edition lipsticks are nice. I have one in 21 which is a nice tomato red. It lasts well, looks great and is fairly cheap.
It has some shine to it and isn't massively opaque. There are other colours available, so you should be able to find one that suits you :)

For more pigmented and matte lips, I'd suggest something like Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm. I have the red one called 250 Standout. It is a darker blue toned red than Mac Ruby Woo. It is very nice on, lasts well and I actually think it's better than Mac lipsticks. There are other colours available and as far as I'm aware, they've been getting great reviews too.

If you want something more expensive, then Clinique lipsticks are good. So are the new Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy lipsticks. Chanel also have very nice lipsticks.

I personally don't like the taste of YSL lipsticks - especially the Volupte ones have a really strong, artificial scent and taste that seems to stay on the lips forever, so would avoid those.

For a coral lipstick from Boots I like Max Factor flipstick in Salsa Red, you apply the darker shade as a normal lipstick & use the lighter shade on your lower lip.

I have another flipstick in a rose colour as I like the effect so much :)

I really like the Soap and Glory ones. Man Trap is a good, bright red.

I agree with carpaccio, Bourjois lipsticks are lovely.
