Fat Face... Time to re-assess?

I've always poo-pooed FF-more a Boden and W Stuff and even The White Company girl. (I'm a young looking size 10 50s person) But just had a look at their website and surprised at how CHEAP the stuff is compared to Boden et al.
Nice-ish looking mac for under £70, dresses for £40....

I HATE the shop decor and the kind of surfy-skiing type slant, but have I been too hard on them?

White stuff is hideous this season. Their target market seems to have gone up considerably in age and it's very per una these days.

I like fat face. Not all of it - they do dodgy jumpers and have an alarming fondness for acrylic, but I have some lovely basic tops and trousers from there. Children's clothes are fab.

oh maybe that's why I like WS then- I must be their target market! ( middle aged...)

I really like the surfy type feel (despite being the least active person ever who's never been or likely to be anywhere near a surfboard!) and I really like a lot of FF stuff - I'm currently wearing a lovely faded blue sweatshirt that I got in the sale and have quite a lot of other bits in my wardrobe. I don't see them as particularly cheap but their sales are very good and I find the clothes generally great quality, I've got stuff from there I've had for years. I do find some of it can be a bit shapeless/frumpy if you are a certain shape and size but if you pick well they're great IMO.

Bluebell79 · 22/08/2014 11:20

I can't stop buying from fat face, and I really need to stop at a size 14 it makes me look frumpy, but I find it comfortable and it washes well, the tunics have become my uniform. I've been shopping there for so long every time I shop somewhere else it feels all wrong. Maybe I should just accept frumpy tunics are my thing.

only thing i own is a fitted cardigan
i find clothes look great on size 8 models but not on me ( 12-14 5ft 4), i like the prints and materials just not the cut (iykwim)

Love their kids clothes but not as keen on the adult clothes, some of the hoodies and jumpers do not wash well, I do like their dresses but a lot of the summer dresses were designed for people who don't need to wear a bra, love their accessories though and footwear. Kitted dd1 out in there last week in the sale, got some lovely bits for not much money, would not pay full price for their clothes though.

I think the quality is good and I have the odd nice dress but agree that their clothes usually make me look bigger than I am (I'm a 12/14). Can't stand all the logo stuff

Lucked · 22/08/2014 15:01

White stuff makes me look really frumpy too, there is so little shaping of the tops and I have a large chest. I have some recent purchases and I should do myself a favour and put them to the charity shop.

carlywurly · 22/08/2014 19:20

Pink frocks, trust me, you'd be one of the youngest in our local white stuff store. I think the crazy prices (£50 for an ordinary jumper with accompanying tag to warn you it will bobble the moment you try it on) haven't helped.

I normally end up ebaying ws purchases. Luckily they hold their value quite well.

Pinkfrocks · 22/08/2014 19:30

That's consoling- thank you!
I must admit that I see women in there trying on clothes that are just 'Nooooooo' for their shapes! This week someone in the changing room at WStuff who said she was a size 18 wanted the asst to bring her the pink fairisle knitted skirt and the pink jumper to match - it was just so wrong for her shape and size. (IMO)
