I seem to be sensitive to a lot of the balm cleansers (I think it's the oils that make my skin react), so can't use Emma Hardie, Eve Lom etc.

I'm looking for a basic cleanser that can be rinsed off and will remove make up. I'd prefer something that isn't heavily fragranced.
I have an oily t-zone but don't want to use anything harsh.

I love dermalogica pre cleanse. Very good for removing eye make up.

I love Avene soapless facewash, non scented and gentle

Have you tried the Superdrug hot cloth cleansers? No, really!
There are 2 that are recommended on here a lot:

Cheap as chips, worth a try? I like the 1st one as I think the 2nd doesn't suit my skin as well.

Cetaphil or Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser. Fragrance often makes people react, especially essential oils.

My skin loves Cetaphil and it's not very expensive. Cleanser is on your face for 30 seconds so I can't see the point in paying for fancy ingredients which aren't on for long enough to be effective.

If you like the balms, Clinique take the day off balm is nice - but totally fragrance free. I think caroline hirons described it as "like lard" Grin
It's never irritated my skin, and cleanse and polish made me look like a tomato!

Soap and Glory 'Peaches and Clean' is magical stuff. I have combination skin and it has improved my skin so much, it leaves it clear and declogged. Massage on to dry skin, rinse off and repeat. The first time removes my makeup, the second gives my skin a good clean.

I don't like balms - they irritate my skin, give me spots and I don't like using a face cloth to scrub my face as it causes broken capillaries, I prefer a chemical exfoliant.

Clean and Clear for me.
Gets all the crap out of my skin. Just lifts all the dirt out.

Clinique take the day off cleansing balm is very good. It rinses off without leaving a greasy residue and it doesn't seem to irritate my skin in any way - I usually get breakouts just looking at new skincare products.

Another Clinique cleanser might work for you - they usually don't add fragrance to them. They are (AFAIK) pretty good at letting you return a product if it doesn't work for you - but probably better to ask before you buy :)

I've also been quite happy with Shiseido Ibuki Gentle cleanser and one from Clarins (I had the one with cottonseed, but would probably go for one without exfoliating bits next time), but they are fragranced.

I tried this Boots hot cloth cleanser: www.boots.com/en/Botanics-97-Organic-Hot-Cloth-Cleansing-Balm-70ml_1262019/ and I hate it. Leaves a film on the skin, made my jawline itchy and seemed to give me spots.

I second the S&G Peaches and Clean-quick, easy and effective!

goodasitgets · 21/08/2014 17:32

I didn't like that botanics one either. The Clinique one emulsifies if you massage it in then wet hands and massage again

I really like Vichy Purete Thermale

Another vote for Avene Really Gentle - it is really lovely to use. It says wipe off but I often rinse it off instead, as I prefer the feeling of water on my face.

La Roche-Posay Physiological Cleansing Gel (fantastic for sensitive skin)
