Going to a 50 th party next weekend and wondering what to wear.

Haven't tried them on but wondering about this mint velvet one or Alice temperley one www.johnlewis.com/somerset-by-alice-temperley-winter-floral-silk-dress-red/p1613801?colour=Red or this other Mint Velvet one

Thanks for any help and if it makes any difference I am a size 8 reasonably slim but with no waist and 5'4.

Thanks for your help.

Not keen on the mint velvet ones and the other link won't open.

thenightsky · 20/08/2014 22:27

Like the cocoon one. cannot get the temperley link to work.

Sleepyhoglet · 20/08/2014 22:28

Google the middle one and prefer it.

MrsMarigold · 20/08/2014 22:29

The second mint velvet one. The first one looks a bit strange to me and the floral one is maybe a bit matronly.

Scabetty · 20/08/2014 22:30

I prefer the mint velvet one.

Nospringflower · 20/08/2014 22:30

Do you mind me asking what it is about the mint velvet ones that you don't like? I like the brand but know some folk think they are very dull.

Scabetty · 20/08/2014 22:31

The first mint velvet one I meant.

MrsMarigold · 20/08/2014 22:31

What are your arms like?

Nospringflower · 20/08/2014 22:32

Think you are right the first mint velvet one is a bit strange and I tried to convince myself the temperley one was a bit kimonoesque!

ZenNudist · 20/08/2014 22:33

Like the third one. Think the temperley one is shapeless and the first mint velvet one is strange

MrsMarigold · 20/08/2014 22:33

not sure about that cape thing irl it could be lovely.

Nospringflower · 20/08/2014 22:33

My arms are good (I think) but I prefer sleeves. Overall I am very skinny but shapeless!

2nd MV one but v expensive - doubt it's worth that much. Don't like the pattern of the AT one much and first MV looks a bit strange.

EmpressOfBedlam · 20/08/2014 22:36

Love the first one, it's unusual.

Nospringflower · 20/08/2014 22:36

I think all mint velvet stuff is pretty dear for what it's worth but I don't have much time so need to tread buy online or do a veryquicknshop!

I'm not overly fond of any of them but I would go for the 2nd mint velvet one. The 1st one, I agree with others in that it looks strange. Something about the pattern just starting half way down the dress, I don't know Confused

RiverTam · 20/08/2014 22:43

2nd mint velvet or the alice temperley. I'm impressed if you have the figure to get away with these, I'd look like a sack of spuds.

The temperley one out of the three but to be honest for a slim size 8 none of them are particularly wow. And none of the colours/patterns are particularly nice.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2014 22:47

Don't like the FC one, sorry.

Greengardenpixie · 20/08/2014 22:47

I like the first mint velvet one!!! I think its very unusual. I dont like any of the other ones!!

ACheesePuff · 20/08/2014 22:52

I like second Mint velvet one. I don;t like the chiffon overlay thingy on the first one. The Alice Temperley one doesn't look great, the sleeves are a strange, matronly length and the body is quite shapeless looking.

LadyMud · 20/08/2014 22:59

The first MV dress looks like an ultrasound scan - and the second isn't much better!

LadyMud · 20/08/2014 23:05

This Alice Temperley dress is similar to your original suggestion, but less sack-like.
