Goodwood Revival ... Help Please!

We are going to the Goodwood Revival (our first time) in September! I have no idea what to wear or where to get my outfit from ... please can someone help?

What size are you?

What's your budget?

Something like this with a fur stole or muff would work well.

Or, if you prefer, go for a bold 60s look

Oh brilliant! It's so much fun. I went a few years back. I got a dress from Debenhams and bought lots of net skirts from the internet to wear underneath. Long black gloves and loads of red lipstick.
Think cinched in waists, big skirts, flicky eyeliner. You can get your hair and make up done there on the day if you want to.
Lots of guys hire military uniform.
Lots of sixties style too.

I went last year and got a vintage 40s style suit to wear. eBay for a tenner! My parents hired some old RAF uniforms and my DP went rockabilly.

I'd start with footwear. You park in a grass field - may have 15mins walk to get to the circuit. They put walkways down but there will be some mud if there is or has been rain. Fair amount of gravel around the circuit & even if you have grandstand seats you may have grassy banks to climb up & down. I've know a few people who wore stilettos & regretted it. It can also be very cold & windswept. On the upside - if you like old planes & cars it is fantastic. Ebay is good for vintage dresses - if its cold you can wear thermals underneath.

I've just discovered Seamstress of Bloomsbury - google it, gorgeous 40s style dresses. Also Campbell Crafts have some nice repro vintage brands. I'm not a fan of Vivien purely because their quality doesn't match the ever-increasing price tag. Whirling Turban make much nicer quality circle and wiggle dresses in better fabrics, but that's just my opinion.

If you are going to Goodwood, then you only need to dress up if you have tickets for the paddock.

Definitely go for something warm - I didn't see anyone there doing the "sexy 50's" thing, which would have been a tad bizarre for a car show.

Also second the notion of wearing decent shoes. It's normally cold, and do you really want heels getting stuck in the grass?

The suit I have on in my pic was wool - it was absolutely perfect for the cold, drizzly, windy weather. I agree with the others, you didn't see women doing the pin-up fifties look unless they're performing. Goodwood is commemorating people going to the races and I think you need to mimic what they would have worn rather than fancy-dressing it. There's a lot of fur and faux-fur about to keep you warm. For shoes I wore a low, chunkyish heel as there is a lot of mud.

Oh yes, and I wore a hat because I didn't have time in the morning to faff with victory rolls and I was having too much champagne fun to go and get my hair done.

I think hats are kind of important for the look, actually. Especially because it's super windy round the track!

If you want 50s style, I'd get something like this and wear it with gloves, hat and thick-heeled shoes.
