Congratulations, Rumours Grin

2 years ago I walked in to Bravissimo a 36D and walked out a 34G, so I kind of know how you feel.

Just beware, it's a slippery slope: I now seem to have a number of very lovely matching bra and knicker sets in my drawer where there used to be mainly M+S greyness Grin. Under no circumstances should you ever look at Brastop - a very dangerous website indeed Wink

I clicked on the link Grin Grin

Now if brastop is too scary, under absolutely no circumstances look at ewa michalak. I'd also avoid leia and mycurvesandme. All bad bad website which should be avoided

I'm a 32E instead of a 34DD. My boobs are NOT big. ??

soupmaker · 21/08/2014 22:22

I'm in shock. Have been in nursing bras for over a year. I'm returning to work next week so off I went to Debenhams and am now a 38F! I used to wear a 40C. Feeling super perky now.

OneLittleLady · 21/08/2014 22:28

I was measured as (and I swear this is true) an A cup, at the time, using the bra intervention method, I came out as a G cup! How can so many places be getting things so badly wrong?!

Bubbshjs · 21/08/2014 22:41

I discovered these bra intervention threads while looking for some info for my niece who is struggling in Holland finding a 28" band size. I too went through the 'shock' a few years ago when Triumph assured me I was a 32E not the 34B I had previously thought! Having gained some weight I know my bras are the wrong size now, but I was still a bit staggered to measure as a potential 32G!!! Also makes me realise that the 32E was probably still out as I'm definitely bigger round the underbust now than I was then.

I'd just wanted to say thank you though to all the amazing ladies on these threads that so selflessly help so many people - the nation's Mums must be much better educated on bras these days and much more supported!

MrsKoala · 21/08/2014 23:28

Temporary - Don't feel bad, M&S said exactly the same to me. after measuring and then bringing in various sizes i didn't fit, looking perplexed, calling in a more senior measurer, who also stared at my boobs like Confused . brought in more wrong sized bras which i didn't fit, then declared i could only wear vests as no m&s, or probably any bra anywhere, would ever fit me.

I left crying and hating my boobs even more. I came on one of these threads and discovered i am a 36d (not a 42a). However, i do have a difficult shape and only one make i've found fits me. But i have lots of lovely bras from there, so i am happy. which is a revelation as i've spent 20 years hating my boobs :)

temporaryusername · 22/08/2014 00:01

Mrs Koala! I'm sorry you had to go through that, but sort of glad I'm not alone Smile

mamijacacalys · 22/08/2014 09:30

Agree about brastop being a dangerous website Wink.
But even once you know your right size, don't bother with M&S. Their cut/quality is all wrong and a complete waste of money IME.
I like a full cup bra and my favourite brands are Elomi, Fantasie and Triumph. Debenhams and Figleaves also have these brands on sale from time to time.
HTH Smile

temporaryusername · 09/09/2014 22:58

Quick question, sorry if it has been answered and I've missed it. When you do the measuring while bending over, do you wear a bra?

SorrelForbes · 09/09/2014 22:59

No, measure without a bra.

temporaryusername · 09/09/2014 23:14

Thanks Sorrel Smile

temporaryusername · 10/09/2014 06:13

I am excited about this now because I've realised my current bras are now useless to me - ashamed to be seen in them Grin. I need to urgently get some good ones, especially for some upcoming events.

So I measured again and this may be long but please help me!

Measured 33-34 underbust, couldn’t tell which was best . I will try some 32s because 33 might have been a better measurement than 34, but I suspect it will be a 34.
Measurement 41.5 or 42 overbust when bending ( I think, I wasn’t too sure how loose/tight to go and the breasts kept migrating out from the tape! My breast tissue is soft though so it really dangled down which increased the measurement – could that be giving me a deceptively hight result or is that all part of how this method works?

So I’m thinking go for 42 overbust, and probably 33 underbust.

I went and tried on my 36C and the band had lots of room when back to front even though it often feels tight on. It doesn’t ride up at the back though. Now, I’ve always scooped and this C cup has seemed fine, but this time I scooped bending over and the cups runneth over, quad boob effect. So does scooping bending over make a big difference then?
I had a 34D around (again M and S!) so I tried that, the band seemed 'ok'. Debatable re going down to 32. Again scooped bending over and OMG YOU WERE ALL RIGHT Grin, again major overflow/double boobs, also the front centre bit was pulled away from the body.

So yes, I can clearly see that I need a 32 or 34 band. I have never worn a 32. At present a 34D is not big enough on the cup size. I just find it hard to believe that it could need to go to G though, skipping all those sizes in the middle? I feel like DD, E, maybe? But should I trust the numbers?

Because my measurements for over and under were both borderline, there are 4 different results potentially. But I think I’ll stick with 42 and 33, which if I’m right following Statistically’s advice on another thread means I should try –
32 G and 32GG
34FF and 34G
Does that sound right? Thank you for bearing with me but I have had terrible struggles with bras Blush.

temporaryusername · 10/09/2014 06:16

ps. I won't be around now till afternoon but will be so grateful for any advice. This is revelatory isn't it? Grin

SorrelForbes · 10/09/2014 09:11

Yep, 32G/GG and 34FF/G are good sizes to start with. However, be prepared to size up/down slightly in the cup depending on style and make. Debenhams Gorgeous brand run small in the band so be prepared to size up to a 34 in their bras.

A 36C has the same cup volume as a 34D, 32DD, 30E etc. A slight lumpiness would indicate moving up a cup size but actual quad boob usually indicates that you need to go up more than one cup size. Therefore a 32DD isn't going to cut it! To go up more than one cup size you need to be trying at least a 32F/34E. I suspect you will need bigger!

When trying a new bra or putting my bra on in the morning, I always have a good scoop whilst bending forward. This helps everything fall in to the right place. I then have another scoop once standing upright.

If you have soft tissue (maybe bottom heavy breasts too?), then you'll probably be better sticking to balconettes and half cups.

temporaryusername · 10/09/2014 14:40

Thank you so much Sorrel. Yes, I think I am bottom heavy and better in the styles you mention. I'm going to have to place a big order or go to a department store, not Marks! Smile

leedy · 10/09/2014 15:14

I too am someone who was told in M&S that they just didn't have anything to fit me after trying to put me into a random assortment of bras that "should be your size".

Picturesinthefirelight · 10/09/2014 15:23

Do John Lewis teen bras run small.

Dds M&S S 28B felt very tight so she bought a 28C but they only do underwired which she didn't like.

In John Lewis the 28C was clearly too big so we tried 28B but the assistant said it was still too big & tried her with a 28A

She measures 27-27.5 under (pulled tight) & 30.5-31 overbust (bent over)

temporaryusername · 10/09/2014 15:30

I have never been so Shock at Marks as I am since reading all this! Well, I did feel quite resentful the day they told me that.

Leedy Wine They really are hopeless, aren't they.

leedy · 10/09/2014 15:41

Absolutely rubbish! I think at the time (pre-DCs) I was a 34C, they were trying to put me in something mad like a 38AA.

bumpybecky · 10/09/2014 16:24

I'm happy with my bras (now gone from 38C to 34E!) but have two teenage dds who need help. Thy're currently wearing 32A and 32B but I suspect need something more like a 28B and 30C?! maybe. We were in M&S at the weekend and it was a nightmare, nothing to try on in those sizes.

Can you bra gurus recommend anywhere online that's good for small sizes?
thanks :)

HazleNutt · 10/09/2014 16:25

figleaves has a good selection in all sizes.
