I went to the TCentre the other day and went in various different shops, but i was surrounded by cropped length tops and really short shorts and skirts.
I like the looks of the stuff on the hangers but I wouldn't get away with a cropped top, even layered.
I decided that i am too old for H&M and DP but not old enough for M&S, I would like to look stylish but I really have no idea where to look!

I am 5ft 9 and size 12/14

Thanks oh wise MN'ers :)

V curvy size 14!

Dontgotosleep · 16/08/2014 22:43

Pass I wouldn't say size 10 is curvy. Also apatite I wouldn't say size 14 was very curvy. Small wonder so many young girls have eating disorders when we have women of size 10 and 14 saying their and very curvy ffs or are you both fishing for compliaments.

Passmethecrisps · 16/08/2014 22:50

Not at all dont. Not remotely. What I meant I suppose was I sit on the larger side of a size 10. And at the end of the day sizes in shops are relative anyway. I did not mean that a size 10 was curvy.

My dress size or how I refer to it will not cause anyone to have an eating disorder.

Passmethecrisps · 16/08/2014 22:54

Hmm. This has bothered me a bit. Raw nerve maybe.

This was a thread about buying clothes from different shops and people are sharing shapes and sizes so that OP can make decisions on where to buy clothes.

I would suspect if I went into a shop aimed at Tweens (there is one in my local shopping centre - FX or something) I would be a long way from fitting into the size 10.

It was a reference to clothes sizing. I should have been clearer, obviously.

Dontgotosleep · 16/08/2014 22:55

Pass there's nothing wrong with being curvy. Curvy is beautiful. I'm size 24 and I embrace my curves. I've go no intentions of ever losing weight

Passmethecrisps · 16/08/2014 22:58

And I agree! Grin

Curvy was certainly not meant to be a criticism. It is relative fact.

BoiledPiss · 16/08/2014 23:05

But surely you can be 'curvy' at any size, you could be a size eight waist with huge norks and size 10 hips... Therefore a shit ton thinner than me 'curvy'

I do think that the eating disorder comment was a little misplaced perhaps...

Anyhoo, back to the subject. I have been trawling some of these sites, so far my findings are..

La redoute, what the hell happened? It used to be lovely, unusual casual chic, like a pinterest board, when did it become like littlewoods?!

DP, found a coue of nice bits, i think i do need to shop online more, the stores, even the big ones are just disappointing, even the trafford dp was cack!

Started looking at white stuff then rl got in the way!

Thanks all for suggestions though, and i am going to look in m&s for some jeans as i remembered due to someone upthread, that i did used to have a pair of skinny jeans which were a fantastic fit from there, but again, our local m&s is guff.

Thanks

Surely 'curvy' refers to shape, not size? You can be a curvy size 10, which means you have boobs, a small waist and go in and out a bit. Or you could be a straight-up-and-down size 10 with a small chest and narrow hips. Both might wear the same size but would probably choose different styles/cuts.

That's how I read it, anyway. If those posters had said, 'Oh, I'm a size 10/14 so I'm really fat', I might be a bit Hmm but they didn't.

CountBapula · 16/08/2014 23:09

X-post OP!

Passmethecrisps · 16/08/2014 23:13

It might be worth heading out to a decent shopping centre and dedicating some time (and cash) to browsing and trying on. Our local M&S is also guff and it makes me very jealous to see people wearing fab stuff only to realise it is M&S.

Sorry for the thread hijack!

SinglePringle · 16/08/2014 23:15

In agree Count (did you used to like cakes?! Apologies if that's not you).

I'm a 10/12 but have a smaller waist to boob/hip ratio, thus am slim with a curvy shape.

Curvy can mean many different shapes.

But back to the thread..

BoiledPiss · 16/08/2014 23:20

I think so Pass, i have just been having a look at those five pocket ones mentioned upthread, i think they are the ones i had, although they seem to be very low on stock in most colours except white, im thinking with three boys under six that wouldn't be the best idea! Grin

CountBapula · 16/08/2014 23:21

I love cakes Single but not sure if I'm known for it on here...

Passmethecrisps · 16/08/2014 23:22

White is almost always a very very bad idea.

poguemahon · 16/08/2014 23:29

5ft2 and size 10 sounds lovely and curvy to me Smile

poguemahon · 16/08/2014 23:30

I'm 5ft6 and size 10/12 and very definitely curvy, btw.

Apatite1 · 17/08/2014 00:44

Er, I measure almost 40 inches around my boobs, 31 inch waist and 42 inches around my ample bottom and I'm 5'1, so yeah, I'm curvy. Actually, I am overweight for my height, but curvy is a shape (ie I don't go straight up and down) and I do not mean it as a pseudonym for fat! What a bizarre comment dontgotosleep. I was curvy at size 6 too, and very happy I wasn't a stick then either.

Coumarin · 17/08/2014 02:08

I would use curvy in the same context as pp have said too. I have a bum and boobs a fair but bigger than my waist so although I consider myself slim as a size 10, I'd still describe my shape as curvy.

33, OP, mainly shop in asos, warehouse, oasis, Zara and Oliver Bonas.

I've also found myself adjusting where I buy clothes over the last couple of years.

Coumarin · 17/08/2014 02:10

Been eyeing up Baukjen lately but yet to buy anything from them.

ToysRLuv · 17/08/2014 03:33

Am 34
5' 7 and a size 14, slight pear with a relatively small chest.

Mostly seem to buy these brands from ebay (never set foot in shops any more):

River Island
Topshop
H&M
Urban Outfitters
Primark
Asos
New Look

samesh1t · 17/08/2014 13:22

Oasis
Warehouse
Dune / Office
Gap
Topshop
And even some un branded items from Jack Wills, Abercrombie & Hollister as the fit is good for petites.

samesh1t · 17/08/2014 13:23

ToysRLuv - shopping on ebay frustrates me as if an item arrives and doesn't fit I have to sell it on again. What's your method? Do you only buy things you've seen in person & know fit?
