So have been gifted some money and I am trying to decide whether to buy this bag as a gift to myself and save the rest.

What size would you recommend? The MM or GM?

Am planning to take a trip and see them in the flesh and make a decision.

But you know when you have wanted something for so long and then when you have the means to do it, its hard.

Either that or i buy jewellery

As a bag lover I would say,yes!! Go for the never full bag instead of jewellery,I would go with the MM, i like the epi leather and both monogram and damier are very nice,though the lighter damier ( azur) is more beachy,so I would avoid, I know what you mean ,its pretty much difficult to make a descion,

I thought I'd go for the classic colour - dont like anything too light

But now I have the money, I'm torn as to whether to spend it or not!
(DH are you listening to this? - I am not a spendthrift!)

Its easy to fantasy shop isn't it? but actually to hand over the money in a physical shop is different
(and not something i do much off as I do everything online)

I've recently been considering an LV tote in the damier azur, I really like cool colours, but I know what you mean - it is a LOT of money! You may find it useful to take a look at the reviews of LV bags by Mary Hanson on You Tube - she does a lot of review and comparison posts and she is really nice, although a bit scary in her LV devotion!
